I have seen some cool videos of folks 308 in action. I cant seem to find any. There should be a sticky called "308s in action" Anyways, anybody want to thro out some names on these cool little video cameras. I want to mount one on my 308 when it's time to get her on the road.
I agree. Here's the promo video, all shot with their hardware. You have to turn the YouTube stream to 1080p and full-screen in order to appreciate it. Yes. Go with GoPro. Here's an onboard video taken at Daytona in November 2011 with my first generation GoPro HERO at 1080p. I'll be upgrading to the HERO3 this year for its remote microphone capability and other new features. Watch it on YouTube and stream to 1080p HD and full screen... Cool, Geno! I'm gonna rig up a wireless mike and stick it in the airbox. I think the GoPro HERO3 might be able to do that.
i tried that with a small lapel mic with my sonycam and it sounded like garbage....not sure what the problem was.

Hey guys, Thanks for the input. Looks like the majority said the Gopro. Ill do my research and get some info on it.
I have the GoPro, ContourHD and the ReplayXD. They are all good cameras. I like the Replay for the form factor. I use mine mostly as a helmet cam and the bullet profile is just easier to deal with. The Replay I have is the XD1080 and it shoots in full HD. You can get them on Amazon for under $300 Replay XD Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have used a Contour on my bike and while the guys with gopros had to get off their bikes to turn their gopros on, the Contour has that nice big sliding switch, and doesn't need a separate case.
As does the GoPro 2. I have the 2 & wifi my ipad to it. It works very well, though batteries tend to drain a bit fast.
The GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition is enough. It has also Wifi -you can control the GoPro and see what is shooting by your smartphone with a free App installed-, HD Video and 12 mpx still camera resolution. The Sports Pack has a suction cup mount that works very well on the car. And now it focus perfectly on underwater scenes -the Hero 2 doesn't have focus underwater-. The Sony Action Cam has Wifi, has HD video, but shots only 2 mpix pictures. I've have a Hero2 and works perfect, so the 3 is a very good improvement. My 2 cents.
Drift Innovation HD170 Cameras Canada - Drift Sports Video Cameras and Accessories from Canada's Largest Action Cam Store - PointofViewCameras Vancouver BC Canada Do not own, but have friends who have these for snowmobiling. They work well in a tough environment, rough and cold. If I was buying I would get a Drift camera, they make a couple of models. I have a friend with an older GoPro. I didn't care for it, but I assume the new Hero 3 is quite a bit better
The Drift is nice but you pay a lot for it... $500USD+ ContourGPS is 1080P and has app for viewing etc on a smartphone. So does the Replay. I never had the Gopro with Wifi so I could say if its worth it. I never liked the form factor for the GoPro cameras. I prefer bullet style like the Contour or Replay but thats a style preference.
Does a suction cup camera mount stick to the outside of a 308 rear window? The window is almost flat near the middle, but not quite. I have never used a suction mount, but am thinking about purchasing one. I want to capture the view showing steering wheel, gauges, shift lever and, of course, view through the windshield to be able to review my hands, line, shifts (... spins and crashes) etc. I would prefer options that allow me to use my existing cameras rather than have to buy a GoPro. My daughter and I off to kill some traffic cones at autocross in a couple of weeks for the first time in the new 308. For my runs, my intention is to worry less about speed and just to slide, spin and offer smoke offerings to the tire gods to learn a little bit about the behavior of the car beyond the limit. It might be good to replay it on video.
