Given the fact that you own the FF, do you think that the F12 will be that much better then your FF? I drove the F12, no doubt a great car, but I must say that it was very similar to the FF without the added ability of the FF 4 wheel drive and 4 seats. Will be intersting to hear your opinion? Thanks
The F12 is a little more nervous and a little more fast, but very little. I drove it for 30 minutes and confess that is a extraordinary machine. But my FF is also extraordinary and incredible and as you say it has advantages that after 15,000 km I can not live without anymore. When my F12 arrives I will tell you whitch I will drive more...
That will be VERY interesting! I'm looking forward to taking the SottoZeros off in a few weeks and putting the PZeros on. The acceleration is stupid fast now, it should be far better with sticky rubber on the car! Rick
I would only trade my FF for another FF with the glass roof but Bianco Avus and with the normal wheels... Image Unavailable, Please Login
My FF has about 15.000 km and the titres are ready for 15.000 km more. My right front tire touched the sidewalk and the wheel rubber protection on the tire suffered a cut. Have been driving with this tire for weeks and once even depassed 300 km/h. I think the tire is safe. If I put a new tire am afraid that combined with used maybe a problem What are your thoughts, please? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have replaced tires for less than this cut. As you see from the photo, the sidewall is the tire's weakest area. If it were me I would replace both front tires (you are right 15,000 km is too much to replace just one). It is a matter of safety, especially since you drive at high speeds. Fritz (if I may address you so familiarly!), much too dangerous to drive with a tire cut this badly, especially because you love your FF and drive it enthusiastically = at high linear and cornering speeds. You are a new and important friend to us here on F-Chat and we cannot afford to have you damaged in any way! ;-) and yes, you should replace all four tires; you must replace at least two, the damaged one and its mate on the other side of the FF.
That tire is NOT safe Sr. D'Orey. As for the Estoril Track, I would definetly stop by the track one day which is very close to you and be part of the club. It is still avery active track. Also be sure to join us in the Portugal section where there are many more member there that would love to share the passion with you and have many more ideas of where you can enjoy your FF in Portugal! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/portugal/
Is there a club at the Autodromo do Estoril? Thank you for all indications on how can I drive my FF in the track!
Thank you. You are absolutely right. Will do it immediately. I enjoy a lot the F-Chat and am absolutely stunned by my Ferrari FF. Now with almost 16,000 and working perfectely, without any rattle or problem. There is a little one: the carpets are not well fixed and the plastic attachement is broken in two of them. Anybody else having this problem? Otherwise it is the most perfect car I ever drove. I drive it everyday in town and travel. My other cars are neglected.
It's the best car I ever drove... And drove almost everything in the last 60 years! Thank you for your kindness
More pictures for you. That was my Ferrari in 1958. F1 375 model. Froilan Gonzales, my good friend, won the first F1 race for Ferrari. British GP in June 1951. Great Froilan !! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fritz, this was the 4.5 litre V-12, yes? you must have been running in Formula Libre in 1958 since I recall that the Ferrari 375 ran in F1 only in 1950 and 1951. in 1958 F1 was run to 2 1/2 litre formula, I believe. Wonderful photo and great memories!!! Many thanks!
Thank you! When the 4.5 Ferrari 1951 engine blew up in 1958 we adapted a well prepared small block Corvette V8. Froilan Gonzales did the same in a 1953 or 1954 Ferrari F1. That category in Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina was called MECANICA NACIONAL. This cars were faster than the sports racing cars of that time, like the Maserati 300S and 450S or the Ferrari Monza, 1957 Testa Rossa... This is a photo in Interlagos Nov '58. First in the right (pole) is me with the Ferrari/Corvette and the second is the fantastic Froilan Gonzales. Image Unavailable, Please Login
mon cher Henri, you must understand what racing was in the 1950s, especially in Brasil and Argentina. They were nations without great wealth (in money) but with very great wealth in competitiveness, spirit and ingenuity. Old race cars built to superceded racing formulae found their way to South America where they were rebuilt with the most available and affordable engines, transmissions and whatever else could be found. And they created spectacular racing!
I first came upon the name Froilan Gonzales in Richard Williams' biography of Enzo Ferrari. He will forever be known as having brought home the first F1 win for the old man. As I recall, at least at the time, he was a huge man and was known for his size as the Pampas Bull.
