That is amazing. I sold that Indy last year for about that same price, before it took a swim in the ocean ... and before it had the bid dent on the right door, and before someone stole the gear shift knob and wheel emblems, and when the car actually started and ran!

I think some people just like project cars ....

I do believe that we are a fraternity and that we should do what we can, (within reasonable limits), to see that some honesty and harmony is maintained in the car collector community so that our passions can be directed to our cars rather than to our lawyers (solicitors).

Probably I've got too much time on my hands, but:
. During the active auction I tried to question the seller but the Ebay system would not allow me to do so.
. I then sent an eMail to Ebay advising them that there might be some problem with the car and that to protect their own business brand they should at least look into it. To this I received no reply and can only deduce that they took no action.
. After the auction, magically, I was able to send the seller a question. I asked him specifically if he made the buyer aware that the care was a flood car. Needless to say he has not answered.
. I don't see a way to contact the buyer.
. I wrote Ebay a second, more detailed eMail. I hope that they will take some action but I don't expect them to do so. I expect that they are more interested in collecting the commission than investigating every claim of fraud or abuse.
. Very late, (and more just for the fun of it), I decided to run my own advertisement on Ebay:
Maserati : Other FLOOD DAMAGE in Maserati | eBay Motors

But I think this experience shows that the newfangled interweb stuff can be manipulated and abused very easily. Personally I prefer the genuine and respected car collector agencies such as Hemmings Motor News.

    ;)

eDISMAY has change quite a bit over the years.

IMHO it's quite the cesspool these days.

You cannot discern much of anything about who else is bidding, whether it's all just shills or what. You can try and contact the buyer if he gives feedback.

Plus it's littered with so much junk non related to your actual vehicle it's just a pain.

Maserati TC $1800. I ran across this on CL. I have no affiliation.

    LINK: TC Chrysler by Maserati

Chrysler's TC by Maserati is a "Q" body based on a modified second generation Chrysler K platform jointly developed by Chrysler and Maserati as a grand tourer and introduced at the 1986 Los Angeles Auto Show. After 2 years of development delays, the TC became available in late-1989 and 7,300 units were manufactured in Milan, Italy by the time production ended in 1990.

I was surprised by this. Looked like a good car to my untrained eye, but then I don't have a good sense for Mistral market values. Anyone see any issues with it? Could be a good excuse for a trip to Napoli for someone! :D

Over here QP3's are usually a lot less and in much worse condition. And soon a QPV can be had for that! But not that funny.

Oh he won't get $10K probably not even $8K either.

It's "looks" a nice example though which is impressive with relatively high mileage.

Other than the auto trans that one looks nice.

Unfortunately, it's on stupid Ebay and therefore the honesty and integrity of the owner and the presentation of the car are suspect at least; since Ebay apparently accomodates fraud.

    Carmine,

I believe it's a made up car. Meaning, it's not an authentic "E" model. It might have even been done under auspices of the then distributor in SF. They had a lot of cars to try and sell so they would add-on various options in an effort to move them more easily. This one has a Nardi steering wheel worth a lot of money now as well as a liquid intercooler kit. You could add those things to any Biturbo at the time which is what I did.

The automatics before 1989 were all 3 speeds and they didn't have the torque converters set up properly so they weren't exactly desirable. Some cars even had their converters re-calibrated. The later 4spd was pretty decent for an automatic.

The suspension looks too tall for an actual "E" model as there were supposed to be lowered by 1 inch.

AFAIK there were no authentic automatic "E" models direct from Italy.

It could still be an OK car though. This one went through eBay once already.

I had an E when I was 18 years old, almost 20 years ago now. I drove it across the country and it was my daily for 3 years. that car actually started my love for all Italian cars. Strange right. Anyway those wheels I am pretty certain are E or European spec 'S' wheels only.

I was ripped off by a company for a coin years ago and there was nothing that could be done but the kept advertising and selling. I used to bid high and for payment say they should offset this against their debt etc. Someone should bid 1m $ for these fake cars --how can they complain if you dont pay!!

Once they removed the transparency it became a cesspool. There are still a lot of decent sellers on there and I still buy stuff but know that you can get burned. I would never pay for a car without seeing it first eBay or no eBay.

    in Norway, ad is here: Maserati Mistral 4000 1966, 70 000 km, kr 379 500,- -

    About $66000 at today's rate.

Strangely enough the seller says he imported it in 2002 but never registered it for road use.
No idea what condition it's in, but the pictures give the impression that all the parts are there.

I've emailed the seller to ask more about it, and the chassis no.

Well sold for the condition of the car. The seller was very happy.

    Ivan,

    A nice price, indeed.

But did you get a good look at it? Did it seem correct to you or were our suspicions about right side damage warranted?

The price paid was with the premium.

The car seemed to have a lot of work done. The leather had the wrong grain and smell but looked fine. Carpet material was wrong. Vinyl dash top. Wheels too shiny. Hood missing the pad, the release and torsion spring. Rear trunk lid missing the leather covered board. Did not see tools or manual. Car is #2152 with engine #2156 .... could have been a factory mistake but auction house did not disclosed the non-matching number in the catalog. It would be interesting to learn if car #2156 has a matching number engine.

I later spoke to the seller and he was very happy to see it go for the amount paid. I suspect the car still needs a lot of mechanical sorting.

I will post photos tomorrow when I return home from Amelia.

    Ivan
