Hmmm, I randomly selected the Japanese GP and both RebBulls were on the front row of the grid. The McLarens were 8th and 9th. LH did get pole at Abu Dhabi but Jenson was 5th. Mark 2nd and Vettel 24th! The fact that Mark was 2nd and the Japanese GP qualifying results make me think that yes the McLaren's improved by RedBull were still the fastest car. Note also that both McLaren drivers had nothing to loose, while Vettel had the pressure of the WDC to content with. Pete

It's a hot 38C (100F) in Melbourne! Who's going to play nice with these tires? I actually think the whole tire thing is a bit blown out of proportion this season with Pirelli now saying these tires operate in a wider heat range than those of 2012. They're going to work right with most everyone, but who will they fall apart quickest with? 2012 both were a huge issue, teams couldn't heat the tires, or they got too hot, AND they fell apart regardless, funny.

Where did I say "confident"? Exactly the point I was trying to make; Last season they, and everyone else, knew they'd laid an egg with him by the end of the first test. IIRC, a journo came up with "Clifford" during that initial test, he really was horrible! Initially, multiple seconds off the pace, scared poor ol' Phil half to death it seems! They were on the back foot and had to play catch up pretty much all season. That they managed second is a huge testament to their hard work & Fred's other wordliness. The 138 *may* be a development of Clifford, but at least he now seems to be "there or thereabouts". They're starting in a competitive position this time IMO. Something even they knew wasn't the case last year. We're getting closer to finding out!..... "This is why we watch" Cheers, Ian
Uh-oh!...... While I'm generally a big fan of the wet, I personally would like "your" race to stay dry - Otherwise we don't really get any clues as to true pace. Whether that's a good thing or not is another debate I guess..... Further, I didn't think you guys got "showers"? Seems it's either nice, dry & pretty toasty OR simply *pissing* down! I can't believe it. We've had mostly weeks of relentless heat here...and now just in time for the GP, a cool change (just coming through now) with the possibility of rain. *sigh*
"Possibility" covers a multitude of sins - At least in the UK..... How good are your guys? CA is pretty easy. England not so much - most times they're pissing in the wind IMO..... Didn't someone find the radar/weather feed that they use on the wall last year? That's what we need..... Cheers, Ian
