Dear Khamsinista and participants of Khamsin Quaranta,

it took some time but finally – the film is ready.

It tells the story of the Khamsin starting with a visit in Bologna and Modena,
shows interviews with Ermanno Cozza, Mr. Manicardi and Matteo Panini in the Panini museum
followed by the international meeting Khamsin Quaranta, organized by Marc Sonnery and Doug Blair
and ends with an Interview with Marcello Ghandini.

The cost for the movie on DVD is 30 Euro including P&P – that just may cover my expenses.
Overseas Khamsinista pls. add 5 Euro for higher postal expenses.

Send me an e-mail on this site under Private Messages with your order including your postal address and please pay in advance on my
    PayPal account under: [email protected]
In case you do not have a PayPal account you may send me cash or a check by mail with your order.

    With kind regards,

    Rolf Versen

    Hello Graeme,

While Classic Driver is a very nice website they do have overly short articles and since I tend to write very long ones I find that frustrating.

Mrs Whitcombe simply breathed over her old notes from a test drive she did in around 2000 -more or less- for Classic Cars of a gold Khamsin (probably Paul's 381) along with an SM and a Merak. Her words were more or less the same but what she fails to do, a flaw common to a majority of test drives is note the all important point that once you do get used to the controls you then enter a new realm of driving enjoyment which is totally unique.

Rob Scorah did explain it very well a couple of years ago in a test drive of Jeremy's 389 for Classic cars and I tried to really really explain it thoroughly in the book, to the extent that Doug my publisher felt it was too much but I said my Khamsin chapter shall not be castrated and he relented:)

At the end of the day any attention Khamsins get is good because they are still too much under the radar. I am trying to organize a televised test drive of one by a high profile individual which should open some blinkered eyes.

    best regards,

    Marc

    Hi Julian,

No not Clarkson though he was very positive on Khamsins, unlike the Merak episode you refer to.

True but he was even tougher on Biturbos LOL :D

He's something of a yerk I would imagine.

That being said did you ever see the episode where they took 3, tried to take 3, exotic cars to Romania or some place for a very rural and tough trip and Bentley refused to supply a car so they took a Yugo and CALLED it a Bentley the entire time. That was pretty funny.

By the way Bob I forgot to congratulate you on your lyrical talents, your song is so truuuuue:) A pity.

Regarding Clarkson I guess he is controversial I don't watch him very often but he does bring the cars we like to bigger audiences so (excpet for Biturbos!) I guess it is a plus.

    best regards,

    Marc

In other news Arnaud Meunier the photographer who did such a superb job for us at
KHAMSIN QUARANTA also writes and his Khamsin article just came out, I have not gotten a copy yet but saw his text which is very good, here is the cover with a certain verde pino K:

Two Jurnos I like are Chris (monkey) Harris as I like his honesty but the other is Jay Leno, as he has mentioned the Khamsin during his story on the SM

Some of you may be aware that Marc is trying his hand at writing fiction. I am happy that he trusted me to read an early edition of his book, and I I enjoyed it very much. Without revealing too much, it is a story which takes place a few hundred years ago, so of course it has nothing to do with cars. Yet Marc managed to put a Khamsin in the story anyway.

Your honor in my defense in this tribunal :) I will say that it is a horse's name and that the Khamsin wind has existed for eons of time! But we will stick to manure free Khamsins here and revert to those mechanical ones made in Italy four decades ago: I had been meaning to post this ages ago but there was another Khamsin in a movie:

IMCDb.org: 1974 Maserati Khamsin [Tipo 120] in "Perché si uccide un magistrato, 1975"

It is one taking place in Sicily about mafia and judges, a very early Khamsin since it was shot in 1974.

I saw the whole movie on Youtube weeks ago but it has been removed though if you

see this link you get to view the car a bit

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PscU92LYoP8]Perchè si uccide un magistrato - YouTube[/ame]

    Here is the compete movie:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-lrc3TJJ2M]Perché Si Uccide Un Magistrato (D.Damiani 1974) Film completo ITA - YouTube[/ame]

At 32min 50 seconds you see it a bit

    at 1h12.35 as well

at 1h29.37 for a few minutes: watch for about 3-4 minutes. WARNING this scene is rather dramatic!

Adolfo Orsi jr tried to help me to identify the car weeks ago but with no luck. I must ask the factory if there are any records of a car being lent.

    Best regards,

    Marc

The version which was removed from Youtube was the English language one but there is still the Italian one as linked above.

Graeme. yes Jay Leno is very positive towards Maseratis, is very good at getting the word out, an opinion leader in the best sense of the expression so I was honored that he would write the foreword for my book. I am due to meet him in Los Angeles next month which will be very interesting.

    best regards,

    Marc

Unfortunately, at 1h30.15 a Lamborghini tractor passes through the scene.

Hahah no not a Lambo perhaps a JCB:)

So in reference to the final scene where the car is seen in the movie does anybody have some strange red coloring stains under their passenger seat in an early Khamsin?

In other news I just had a looong conversation with a major western European CEO, young a real enthusiast who eagerly wants a Khamsin for all the right reasons (driving not tinkering or investing:)) so it was pleasure to speak with him. He is a winner so his purchase won't take long.
He called from his Moscow office so the call was initiated by his Russian secretary which was a reallllly nice voice to hear on the phone, Da, and he said she looks as good as she
sounds:). He is moving back to western Europe from Moscow partly because you can't drive anything there: Niet! Too many potholes and crazies.

    best regards,

    Marc

i'm wondering if anyone has a khamsin in the new york area that i could come and have a look at-i've always loved them, but have never seen one in the flesh-i'd happily trade a ride in one of my own odd cars! (not saying a khamsin is odd, of course!) :)

i'd love to hear about ownership, reliability (gasp!) that kind of thing...

    thanks!

    Phil,

These are rare birds. There are probably only about two hundred drivers in the world.

Mine is in a state of partial restoration, (or partial disrepair depending upon your point-of-view). It's currently tucked away in my rental shop space in Paterson, New Jersey. It's ugly now and not really representative of the breed.

I am aware of only one other in the metro NYC area. It has been for sale for some time at Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria. It's worth a subway ride to go have a look at it.
1975 Used Maserati Khamsin Coupe at Gullwing Motor Cars Inc. Serving Astoria, NY, IID 9239960
I looked at this car and rode in it about two years ago while trying to broker it from the previous owner with another F-Chatter acting as the buyer's agent. I think it's restorable but is priced somewhat high and needs a complete service on all systems. PM me if you like and we could talk about it.

Photos attached: Mine is the blue one. The red one is the car for sale in Astoria.
