You know something is ****ed up in a country when the well being of the perpetrator and his children is more important than the well being of the victim and their children.

The miscreant has already made his decision. The consequences are out of his control. It's not the responsibility of the victim to deal with the sensibilities of the attacker.

What ****ed up thinking requires the victim to discern the true intent of an armed attacker and what numb scull requires the victim to select the "appropriate" response method?

I am more worried about the children of the victim, when their father gets brutally murdered by a rat of a human being because his chosen response did not stop the attacker.

I'm glad that you finally understand that innocent citizens have the right to be protected from criminals. Sadly, I don't think that you understand that police officers protecting the safety of the public use entirely different tactics than a single homeowner in defense of his home. Kerrari's original post that started this most recent round was uninformed. Yin did an excellent job of explaining why a team of highly trained police officers could attempt a non-lethal arrest, whereas a private citizen all alone cannot. It was a comparison of apples and oranges. I only chimed in to help educate the uninformed because I believe that most of the completely illogical nonsense I read on F-Chat is due to the poster being ill-informed or uninformed. You have now been provided with all of the information that you need to be informed on this issue. What you do with it is up to you.

 

The funny thing is that you won't find any threads in the US regions discussing what Australia should do about anything regarding its internal affairs. Mainly, we just don't care. It's not in our national interest. But more importantly, it's none of our business.

I don't need a gun to protect myself or my family as the probability of armed attack is virtually nil (and before you argue that I need it for that small possiblity - the probability of an accident with a firearm is greater than the possibilty I may need it)

Thanks for the invite, but I'll be too busy watching the America's Cup here in San Francisco this summer. The probability of my needing to protect my family from an armed attack is virtually nil also. We arrived at that position in different ways. I respect yours. Hoping that you can respect mine. But if I ever have to, I suspect that my odds of coming out alive are significantly higher. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away! FYI, I have never killed or even shot anyone. Never even pointed a gun at anyone. Never needed to. Never had an accident with a gun, either. Like all types of accidents, gun accidents can be prevented. If you want to make a meaningful reduction in accidental deaths, ban the sale and possession of poisons, drugs, narcotics, bathtubs, swimming pools, ladders and stairs.
