CS market compared to Scud Market

    It will be interesting a year from now how this debate appears in retrospect. I suspect that both the Scud and the CS will experience meaningful depreciation (compared to the last couple years).

    Why?
    1) many were holding on to their toys until the economy started looking and feeling better. Holding on vs upgrading. Look what is happening with housing. Pent up demand for the upgrade. Don't underestimate the number of owners who use HELOCs for toys etc. HELOC lending is back in full force...

    2) New and better NEW toys hitting the marketing. Not many people will choose an old out of warranty Ferrari over a new bright shiny fully warranted car...with better performance. 991 GT3 comes to mind. Same or LESS money vs a 10+ year old CS...9/10 buyers will get the Porsche.
    ** not to mention the stupid number of other used high end toys for sale...Mc comes to mind. 2011s and 2012s are in Scud price ranges...I can't honestly say the Scud is even in the same league as the Mc. (and I love Scuds)

    3) 458 prices are going to fall. They are entering into the normal depreciation phase. Ferrari is NOT holding back making as many 458s (and Calis) as they can sell. In Europe Ferrari 458s have been depreciating like any high end car. 9.9 Buyers will choose a 458 over a Scuderia or a CS.

    4) Modern Ferrari's will take decades before they are truly collector cars. In the sense that they are considered 'art'. Maybe 20 years from now a CS will be sought after like Dinos are now. Exceptions being the obvious exceptions...Enzo. f40 and maybe that new beast..LaFerrari.

    Bottom line, who gives a crap. Be happy you can afford what you have. The constant upgrade mindset is insanity. It causes one to not appreciate what they have. The whole 'be in the moment' mindset matters.

    Personally other than our California (sold our Scud) I am focusing on appreciating cars..Old Porsches being #1. (Word to the wise...buy 65-73 Porsche 911s.). I am on the hunt for a 89 Speedster...doubled in value since 89...you get the idea.

    Exactly. Does it matter? Both are great cars. Scud is better performing, newer technology, etc., but I wouldn't use that as a basis for arguing that Scud will retain better value over CS. These same threads are going to crop up when the 458 Corse gets released.... Corse vs. Scud blah blah blah. For collectors, this topic is probably of deep interest but for many of us enthusiasts, we want to enjoy these cars for what they are and not spend hours debating which will be worth more many years later. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see an upward trend in CS prices (and Scud prices for that matter), but if they don't, no biggie here as I buy cars to enjoy not for speculation.

    Dang! The 2010 GT3 and the 2012 991S does it in 7.40. I can't believe that those cars are that much faster than my CS. On the other hand, that means that the 991S is only 2 seconds behind a Scuderia and 458! Technology marches on! At least none of these cars screams like my CS, not even the GT3.

    Yes the 991S is a very fast car. It's an engineering marvel really. I owned it for a few months. However it doesn't have a soul. It's just a machine.

    Ahhhhh, magazine racing. The real question is what could YOU do the Nurburgring in any of those cars....... Or in YOUR own Ferrari?

    My point is track times are really useless, except for arguing on forums or at coffee. The reality is that your average driver in any of these cars would get whipped by a decent racer driving a hot hatch.

    Stick to your awesome mickey-mouse shuffle technique with your steering wheel. I don't think I have ever laughed that hard at an in-cabin POV video in my life.

    You should take down those videos ASAP, it's quite an embarrassment to all FERRARI drivers.

    They're pretty firm on it, maybe 2-5k wiggle room but beyond that he will just keep the keys.

    Hmmm, i was expecting some hot, fast laps at some challenging circuit/track, but basically it's just some 'look at me', straight line acceleration video's you put on.
    I do like the tunnel video though, nice edited!

    You should watch some vids from Michael B ;)


    BTW: this thread was about comparing the CS and Scud market, but it changed in another 'which is better car' ;)

    Exactly. Average asking price of Scud is obviously higher than CS, but I'm curious to know by how much. Anyone willing to compile the numbers (mileage and asking price) for the Scud Market like I did for the CS Market recently?

    As Ferrari fans/customers, we are so lucky to have fine choices when it comes to buying a used F-car. Weather you want to buy a scud or a 360cs or any other, we are so lucky to have these choices.

    Scud/360cs both special cars, ferrari has many choices but it also attracts many different type of buyers than your average car brand.

    If you are the type of buyer getting ready to spend 200k give or take on a car, and your main purpose is preseving value and hoping for the car to go up in value, neither a scud or a 360cs would be a smart choice, when you add all maintaince costs, deprication, insurace etc to hold it and rarely drive them, in the end neither car will you make money.

    If you are the other type of buyer (admit it most of us are ferrari/sport car junkies so most of us in this category) and looking for pure performance/sport and looking to buy a car and drive it and enjoy and not sweat things like value going down etc. then you should be thanking your lucky stars, considering what a nice 360cs is worth, spend an extra 15k to 20k and you get a way better car in every sense of the way and buy a scud. I imagine most people spending 175k to 200k on a car want as much value for the money and that is the most important thing to consider when buying.

    Instead of looking at was these two cars are currently trading for, when you look at 360cs going rates and then look at going rates of scud, hands down the Scud is way better value, so if your like most buyers the scud is the way to go. I am sure some of the 360cs owners would/will switch over to a scud at these prices, and some 360cs owners will not.

    In the end both amazing cars, neither worth buying to hold and make money, buy them and enjoy,

    Viva LA360CS , LAScuderia , Laferrari haha.

    Not a summary of asking prices, but the scud pricing model is still holding for the most part.

    One comparison I can make would be:

    08 red stripe scud no carbon pkg 10k miles = $160k expected selling price

    09 red stripe 10k miles = $180k expected selling price

    CS red stripe 10k miles = $165k asking price (maybe $155k selling price?)

    So, the 08 no carbon scud is ~$5k more than the equivalent 4 year older CS. The 09 scud comes w the carbon package and is 5 years newer and is ~$25k higher than equivalent CS.

    all this armchair racing talk is bs.
    if you want to have a fast track car, then get one of the challenge cars - whatever number you like.

    this thread is about values going forward.
    if you want to have a street car that has track cred, then buy the cs and be happy that it is at least maintaining its price level from here on out. all the others are losing. and thats a fact.
