We can all sit back and watch. The car did not sell at $69k when needing a major. Is it worth $77500 with a major?

    Dave -

It's so nice of you to come on and put down Doug's cars for being out of your " budget price range" when he is a Sponsor and trying to sell them - then posting links to other cars for sale.

    Mod's Is that allowed??????

    Dave:

Having a Ferrari 355 for 2 months doesn't make you an expert, please type less and read more ;)

Never, ever did I say I was an expert. But, I have experience in finding a good car at a fair price and I like to help others do the same - that's my motivation, plain and simple. I want to see others have the joy of owning awesome cars and doing so without spending money they realy don't need to spend.

PS, others seem to agree - maybe you missed those posts.

And I promise, if these posts stay in the classified section, I won't say a word but they are in the discussion section and we are discussing.

    Dave,

Your enthusiasm about your new car shows, I think you should lay off Doug and his cars - that are worth every penny.

Best of luck with your Nero f1 355, wonderful chassis & Motor.

    Best,

    Andrew

Prices are increasing as inventory on well sorted cars is becoming slim.. Supply and demand. Nice to see higher asking prices IMO

Im a former 355 owner and Im currently looking (very casually) for another.

While I love seeing beautiful examples like the one Switchcar has posted, I think more of us buyers are looking for 'middle ground cars'. We dont want a fixer upper but we dont need one that is perfect either.

I treat my cars pretty hard and they will get some scratches. I dont care about peeling airbag covers or sticky switches. I dont care about stone chipped bumpers or swirls in the paint.

I care about solid compression tests and replaced cats. I want to see 20k+ miles on the car I end up buying because that tells me its running great, regardless of how it looks.

Usually this car exists for ~$60k ...so to sell one for $79k requires finding just the right buyer which can take a lot of time. Its worth it to that buyer and if the seller isnt in a hurry all is well in the world.

    Replaced Cats?

Scratches and sticky stuff are easy fixes relatively speaking.

The value in 355s comes from the records, the tranny, the year and the body type. 9k or 20k miles is of little consequence assuming everything prior checks out.

In reading through this thread I get pretty pleased with myself.

For what it is worth, I bought my 95 GTB about 3 years ago. There were a lot of cars on the market at the time, seemingly due to the economic hangover. I was lucky to be in a buyer's position at the time and knew exactly what I wanted. My want list was as follows:

    1. 1995 only - As a shop owner I wanted to work on the car myself and I did not want to deal with OBDII or EWS (at least that's what the security system is referred to in BMW terms).

    2. Black with Tan interior

    3. Recent Major and all 1995 issues resolved like headers and guides (which basically meant finding a car with over 25k miles)

    4. No accidents or paint work and a clean car (was willing to go with an 8/10 or higher)

In what I would consider a flooded market at the time, this still took me about 6 months to achieve and I had it shipped from about 2000 miles away. I paid an incredibly good price at the time. I have only seen one, maybe two similar cars come up for sale that are equal to mine in the past year. Asking prices are about $15-20k more than what I paid.

Nice cars are worth buying at higher prices. period. You always win when you pay up front instead of on the back side, plus you get to enjoy the car. I'm not partial to spiders or GTS cars, but if the car is as nice as it seems, this price is 'fair'. If you buy cheap ($50k or so), you'll certainly eclipse this asking price if the car needs a major and has other issues.

Good Luck with the sale as it will only help the value of my car and others. Not that I'm selling, it just feels nice to know I made a wise choice on my car.

I don't have the specific knowledge of this car, or the market knowledge of most of you here, but the bottom line is that this car is beautiful and it's making me drool.

Maybe someone should tell the seller that timing belts and cam belts are the same thing...as is coolant and antifreeze. Statements like this really make a seller seem like a neophyte.

Unless someone creates a time machine and goes back to build more 355's, these cars will go up in value. If not from demand and increasing rarity from accidents, then from inflation.
I'm sure one day everyone here *****ing and moaning about a 78k 355, will one day be telling stories about how they could have bought one for that price.

    Just my 2 cents.

Yet another reason to pay up for one with a documented, verified history....like the one we have.

Anyone can find one that looks clean on Ebay....but what's the real story.

Just because a car is listed on eBay, that does not mean it's any less of a car. I seem to recall this one being listed there. eBay is a great tool and people take advantage of that for getting to a large audience.

Wow, 5 oil and filter changes including 2 major engine out service's in 2381 miles ! Looks like the only time the car was driven was to the "service dept" Better check the drain plugs to see if the threads are worn out.........
