NBC Sports website has a listing for Qualifying at 12 Midnight EST tonight. I guess we will see.

You know, I liked Varsha, but it seems like the new crew "gel" better. I also like the actual news desk stye discussions they have instead of the open chairs discussion.

That's a repeat of what would have been qualifying. I'm a little unsure fo the time difference, so I don't know if they could possibly reconfigure that be a repeat of the rescheduled qualifying.

As of this moment, tvracer.com does not show any live coverage of the delayed Q2 and Q3.

Honestly, I don't see anything different therefore no innovation. They are just copying Speed so far.

It's not worse, it's just the same only on a harder to find network.

I agree. You know, they could at least provide a video link for Buxton so that his interviews aren't just a couple of disembodied voices in the ether.

But, yes, pretty much the same as Speed. No worse, but no better, either.

Sam just did the intro for Sebring with some nice archival footage. So I guess Speed kept him on even if he's doing F1 for NBC. Good for him.

I've been checking the ticker under NBCSN for the last 30 minutes and while they mention that the race is at 1:30AM EDT, no mention of qualifying. I'll set the DVR to catch the qualifying repeat just before the race itself and see if that shows Q2 and Q3 or just a repeat of the previous coverage.

No they can't give Will a camera. I certainly don't claim to know the details but pitlane reporters + cameras means giving the Pygmy yet more money...... I'm actually a little surprised they can get away with his reports being filmed at all.

Agree on it being about the same. Diffey does seem an improvement over dear ol' Bob, and the quality is improved. And the studio set is a little better. All in all, I'd say 'so far so good'.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Agree. I'm withholding a definitive opinion until I see if they give priority to soccer or live quali at 8pm... I suspect they'll show quali delayed at 12:00. Hope I'm wrong...

At least F1 wont be pre-empted for breaking news of muscle cars being offloaded from trailers at the BJ auction... Or a NASCar JR series driver entered the coney island hotdog eating contest.

    +1

If I were to put on my soccer fan hat :)eek:), I'd be pissed if they **** can the game for some guys going round in circles in Australia!...... We'll get to see Q2 & 3, just delayed is my guess.

    Indeed! :)

Pretty bad luck that its pissing down for their first race. At least my VPN & sky fed is still working..... ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

If it's merely a matter of paying more for a camera, then I think what you mean is they won't give Buxton a camera.

Possibly. This is their first season, they're learning too - I was impressed that they sent the boys to the last test. If the viewing figures are good, maybe they'll 'do a Sky' and have a team in the pits in the future.

BTW, meant to ask a while back, do you work for Speed? ;) Your hostility towards everything they're doing suggests some bitterness... :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Cameras may not be a la carte items. Only those who buy the whole F1 TV access package (SKY etc.) may get unlimited camera.

Right now there is a soccer game scheduled on NBCSPorts at 8pm est., that is the time for live Q2 and Q3. We are all hoping they can the soccer and show Q2 and Q3, we will see!

DVR is set for 8pm est, on Directv its channel 220.

It does not appear to be the case. MLS Soccer (SEA vs. PDX) is scheduled at the same time as Q2 and Q3 in Australia and the NBCSN website does not show it being pre-empted. I also watched the score ticker for about 30 minutes and they made no mention of a program change. The only notice about F1 was the race broadcast at 1:30AM EDT. They may pre-empt the game for cities other than Seattle and Portland, but that wouldn't help me as I am in Seattle. :)

What I am hoping is that they show Q2 and Q3 during the qualifying repeat just before the pre-race coverage kicks off.

Actually my TV lineup shows qualifying as a tape delayed show starting at 11pm CST followed directly by the race (live).

In my lineup they also show a rerun of F1 practice before the qualifying. Seems odd, but that's what the guide says.

Disappointing but not unexpected. F1 qualifying probably has us and about 6 more people watching.

    Sad.

They had already scheduled a replay of quali for midnight. So they can show the actual quali during that scheduled period, with the scheduled F1 commercials already slotted.

If they preempted soccer, they'd be running F1 with soccer commercials. ;)

But the soccer game is subject to the soccer league, so there's a chance the game may be called off for it's own reasons ... like rain on astroturf.
But rain in Seattle? What are the chances ... that wasn't going to happen anyway? ;)
