Where is the best place to buy for selection and prices?

We will be buying a gas range, a refrigerator, and a microwave. Any recommended brands? For the refrigerator, we are looking at French doors with a bottom freezer, and an in-door ice and water dispenser........

    Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Ok, don't laugh.

Sears has an excellent selection of several brands.

We went all BOSCH in our kitchen, I'm not sure I'd do that again as the induction cooktop and the dishwasher both seem to be a little fragile.

We made a wishlist of the appliances we wanted, then as they went on sale at sears, picked them off one at a time, saved a bundle, sometimes as much as 60%, over what we had originally budgeted.

Last November I picked up the Samsung french door fridge from sears.com on a great sale with a number of coupons.

So far it has been perfect.

I think Lowes has it for over $3k but on sale at sears.com has it for significantly less.

Slickdeals.com is a decent place to scope out good deals on appliances.

We put Viking in our new kitchen and really like the units.
    6 Burner Gas Cooktop
    Double Ovens
    Drawer Microwave
    Disposal

Got an extra discount for buying that many items. A buddy just did this as well with Thermador.

Went Asko and the dishwasher, as the one we owned at the last house lasted all 18 years we were there.

Went Vent -a -hood for the cooktop vent, as it is the quietest and best unit we have seen. Owned by a buddy's family and made in Richardson Texas.

Didn't want to pay $1,500 - $2k each for separate wine coolers, so went with the Avanti
42 bottle 2 temp side by side. Works great for $995.

Went 48" Sub-Zero for fridge. Paid extra for the ice and water in door. Now wish we hadn't. Throws ice down too hard, and flies out of glasses. Takes up too much space in freezer and part of fridge. They have come up with a hinged door to clean the compressor grills, which needs to be done twice a year.

I forgot my favorite new appliance. A Scotsman Nugget Icemaker. It makes the Sonic tubular nugget style ice that is great for ice chompers. Still have the larger ice in the Sub-Zero for Scotch drinking.

It has been reciving rave reviews from my guests.

It does constantly throw off these nuggets, and makes a light sound when it does, but does not bother us.

I checked out Sears' website. They do have a nice selection, and I like what they offer in terms of service. My wife bought appliances through them a long time ago, and liked the experience, so that is where I am leaning right now.

Can anyone share experiences with Kenmore brand?

Are you talking about that place that was right next to Honey Tree? If yes, that place is gone.

    I respectfully disagree.

I had one from 1994 - 2012 in a house we built that gave me no problems. Removed a 30+ year old one from the new house that was working. In Dallas, it is hard to find a remodeled or new home that doesn't have one.

I have a friend who is the Viking distributor in our area, and their refrigerators are not their best products. He has Sub-zero as well.

The key to long life for any fridge or icemaker, is vacuming the coils every 2-4 months, so the unit does not have to overwork. Learned that from a repair man many moons ago, and have kept up the regimen.

well, i respectfully disagree with you. only subzero needs their coils vacuumed every 2-4 mos. thats why they have a high compressor failure rate. nobody does that.
we never do that with any of our other friges and they work just fine. :)

    Purchases made.

I went into a local Best Buy, and was attracted to the Samsung product line. A salesperson immediately greeted me, and I told him I am just starting to browse, and would end up having question in a bit. Time came to get some answers, and the guy who initially greeted me was nowhere to be found. I then saw one other guy who was talking to another employee. I went up to him and said I had a few questions. He said he'd be right with me once he was done with something. I waited a few minutes, and just left. I was appalled that there was something more important to be done than helping a customer. I was done with Best Buy, or at least I thought so.

Logged onto Sears website. Good selection, but didn't have the Samsung products that we wanted, so I opted to switch to Kenmore. I wanted to take advantage of their 0% financing, but had to apply for their credit card. I did so, then went to checkout, but the instant credit card approval did not provide the information I needed to check out. I called the credit card department, and they told me they cannot provide any additional information. I was a little surprised that here I am, ready to make a purchase, but could not because I had to wait for the credit card to show up at my house. This lost Sears the sale.

I told my wife what happened with Sears, and she said she much preferred the Samsung products at Best Buy. So, I figure let's try another approach, and get the items online. Problem was that when going to select a delivery date for the refrigerator, it said they do not deliver to my area. So, made a call to customer service, and bought everything over the phone, and rectified the delivery issue. Spent quite a bit of time on the phone, but at least the rep was very helpful and got everything done. So much better than my in-store experience.

So I ended up getting, all in white, all Samsung; 28-cubic foot refrigerator with French doors with 2 pull-out freezer drawers on the bottom. A gas range with a 5th simmer burner in the center, and an over-the-range 1.7 cubic foot microwave.
Last but not least, a 24" Westinghouse LED tv to replace the ancient tv in our bedroom.

TV arrived yesterday, and all appliances will be delivered and installed on April 20th.

I never thought appliance shopping could be so involving!

Sorry I'm so late to this conversation. The only piece of advice I would have is to shy away from icemakers that are in the refrigerator. Got one and hate it!

Yep really and probably because it's the only ice maker I have and the out put is small. I work at Whirlpool and get to see everything they sell and I really liked the idea of the ice maker in the frig - until I got mine. Next will be a stand alone ice maker. Maybe then my feelings will change.

Finally got my new appliances this past weekend. I absolutely love the Samsung refrigerator, and cannot say I've used the stove much yet. We also had a Samsung microwave installed above the range, and it is quite big. So big, in fact, I was suggesting that we microwave the old unit in the new one!

My experience with Best Buy was horrendous though. I scheduled to have these appliances installed a month in advance in order to have the Saturday morning time slot. Sure enough, I am waiting around Saturday morning, and no one is showing up. I call BB, and they said I was scheduled for the 4 - 7PM time slot. At this point, I was so done in dealing with them that I just said okay, let's get it over with.
