P1 clients don't care as much about tire wear as they care about having bragging rights for 2G's

Will be a great car for sure. However, not surprising that our factory "insider" information suggests that the performance gap of the standard 458 Italia to the new lightweight variant is not as great as previous editions (say from 430 to Scuderia).

Consider that a 458 specced with race seats and sport rims already has high performance and advanced features such as:
fantastic and light weight carbon brakes
    super fast gearbox
great tires (if specced with Michilen supersports)
lots of power from new engine
    advanced aerodynamics

I suspect that compared to the above spec it will be difficult to save much more than 80 - 100 kg's, or about the equvalent of driving a standard 458 with an empty tank of gas vs. a full tank (20 U.S. gallons X 3 kg's/gallon = 60 kg's), no matter how much carbon they throw at it.

I am hoping for more from the lightweight 458. A more visceral feel at lower revs, more hp, more noise and reduced weight would do it. Remove the sport function, the radio, air con, the carpets and everything else that interferes with the driving experience. I only use my 458 for spirited A to A drives through winding country roads with minimal traffic and no law enforcement and, increasingly, the track. Plus my wife has no great interest in the car. So it is a logical decision for me - a 458 version of the Scud would be fit for purpose...

Agree a more visceral feel at low speeds would be good, so long as there is minimal comprimise in usability. Exhaust is easy to change, I've disabled the bypass valves in my 458, loud as hell all the time and I like it that way.

Still, overall it will be hard to substantially exceed the basic 458, and at what cost? Have a feeling it will be six figures ($$$) to make the jump, ouch!

Very interesting data. Thanks for posting.

The pattern is very consistent, so your guess is a very educated one. It is also very interesting that both the F430 and 458 Challenge cars cool the jets of LaFerrari (1:20 we are told). It goes to show how different a track set up car really is.

Racing slicks alone is worth a few seconds.

I am sure they won't removed all sound deadening material to make it feels like a tin can race car, they will leave some in for the refinement required of a street car.

Relative to the posted weight spec of a regular 458, which is the base car with no option. It is hard to judge what all the options weight because there are so many. Road & Track magazine weighed a fully optioned car with just about all CF parts and a fairly bare bone base car with no CF, the fully optioned weighed slightly more.

On the sound deadening, I think you are right and I hope so.

On the weight difference, do you remember the difference in lb between the two cars?

I have the magazine at home, will post the info later today. The # in my head is 100 lbs, but really not sure. All those stereo/NAV and front lifter adds weight that the few CF pieces can't compensate.

But as someone mention earlier, the tank of gas weigh 120 lbs............

Thanks ... that's good enough to get an idea. These are small differences about which much is made.

Looks like the reveal date is rapidly approaching...

Ferrari 458 Monte Carlo available on order - report

the link has a couple of interesting pics -- although not sure how accurate they are

    They say:

Although it hasn't been officially revealed, the Ferrari 458 Monte Carlo is available for order according to a new report.
********* says the hardcore version of the Ferrari 458 Italia is already available on order at Maranello. Speculation suggests it will be called Monte Carlo (or Challenge Stradale) and will be showcased at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
This piece of information comes from German and Italian members of ********* who are saying Ferrari has opened the order books, with deliveries expected to commence in early 2014."

Still it will be another chance to create that 'Stradale look' to good effect again, eventually!

Really looking forward to it. I'm top of the list but just a little nervous that they don't build more than they should. There is no reason the car wouldn't be just amazing and I'm sure it will be just fast enough to do a faster lap then the Mclaren mp4-12c which is fast!

    Cheers,

    Rb

My dealer told me yesterday that they are expecting December 2013 or January 2014 for the first deliveries in the UAE. Even though the car still is not officially confirmed yet, there is no doubt that it will come and launched in Frankfurt in September.

Marc Gene told him the car is phenomenal, yet you wouldn't expect otherwise, knowing their past performance and who pays his salary...

I truly think the overall build numbers will be much less than the 430 Scud
Reason being is they pushed the launch to the very end of the 458 production
cycle.Where as the Scud was launched much earlier
