Ive been wondering if it would be possible to convert a 99 5.2 355 with the single mass airflow over to a twin system like the early 355s? Would there be a benefit to doing this such as HP gain?
Is it possible, yes; the challenge cars were so converted. However, it entails ditching the 5.2 ECU and wiring harness and going back to the 2.7 wiring harness and ECUs. {$$$}
I figured the cost would outweigh any benefit. Why did Ferrari go to the single intake tube and MAF then go back to the double with the 360? I'm guessing because the single isn't as efficient?
On the 350z and a few other cars there are dual MAF converters that sum the total of both MAFs and present a single measurement so the hardware is out there. You might have to play with tube diameter to calibrate it but I don't see why it can't be done. I would imagine that Jim Selin might even be able to calibrate it to the two MAFs if you sent them to him along with the single MAF. In fact I am going to email him and ask the question right now. Got a reply right away, seems that it may already be a consideration. I will point Jim to this thread.
