Can anyone tell me when Michelin tires were last manufactured for the 360 and available in the US?
Norm, I presume you're finding it difficult to get the sizes you want. Is that it? M PS2 were (and possibly still are) available in the stock sizes. 215/45/18 & 275/40/18 M Pilot Super Sport (MPSS) aren't available in stock sizes in EU (and I think USA also) but alternative sizes can and do work. e.g. 225/45/18 or 235/40/18 paired with 265/40/18)
Hmmm.... if the tyres are from 2000 or later they should have the date code as per ....... the picture below. If you can find a similar marking but with only three digits at the end e.g. 359 that would equate to Wk 35 2009) Image Unavailable, Please Login
According to Michelins site, there are no tires that fit a stock 360 in matched sets at this time. I just went through it, and had to buy Bridgestone RE-11's for my car. For the OP, I don't know when they stopped being available, but I'm sure a quick call to Michelin tech support will answer that question.
I just looked at the tires about an hour ago and I could not find the DOT letters. Tomarrow it will be on the lift and I will look further. The tires say Pilot Sport so they're PS1's. I spoke to Michelin and they told me the last time the fronts were made was in 12/2007 and the rears a month later.
Ha! Old school tyres for sure! Might even be the originals! You will enjoy the ride quality and grip afforded by new rubber. p.s. Sometimes the DOT code is only present on one wall of the tyre (and in your case it might be on the inside and not easily visible).
I checked for the DOT code today and found it on one tire. The tire was made in the middle of 02, just about 11 years old. They had good tread depth so they were new old stock as the car has 13m miles on it so they're not the originals. Thanks to all.
11 years! Unless you're not driving the car (e.g. keeping it in a museum) I suggest you invest in new tires!
Good tyres by all accounts. Just don't run them at speeds in excess of 180 mph for extended periods and you should be fine!
I also just ordered the RE-11's, and will be putting them on next week. Actually the speed we don't want to exceed is a constant 168MPH.
Ahh the manufacturer's always build in a margin for error, I'd say 180 would be ok, just not for more than a constant 30 minutes at a time.
Good thing you said that, I was just about to get in my car during my lunch hour and drive 185MPH for 45 minutes. You are a lifesaver! Seriousy though, I have driven with these tires at over 180 feet per second and they were fine.
Glad to have helped! You get a whole hours (60 minutes) for Lunch? We're gonna need a new thread to discuss that! 180 fps though, sure you could use them RE11s 24 hours solid at that pace (even in the wet) and not warm them up! Best!
I agree, there is always a safety margin built in. I'm sure that they would be fine at any speed for any duration that our cars are capable of. Don't forget that the ratings are also at full load capacity on the tire. I won't be too worried.
