Sooo, I'm in an embarrassing predicament: I've been looking for the perfect carbureted "Magnum" 308 GTS for the last year, and planned to buy it in time for my birthday, March 26, to unveil at my annual gathering of my closest friends and family. I was so excited about the occasion, I sent out invitations to a Magnum PI theme party, rented the party room at an upscale restaurant in the middle of downtown, and then informed the managers I'd be having a tiki hut and two live palm trees erected, and wanted to bring in a Ferrari, too. The manager's response was, "I LOVED that show! We'll remove all the dining room furniture so we can pull in the car from the street and put it in the middle of the restaurant!!!"

Flash forward to yesterday, when the person I was hoping to buy my 308 from backed out and decided to keep it. So now, I have about 20 people arriving in Hawaiian shirts to a nice restaurant (that I will have adulterated with palm trees and a tiki hut) to celebrate my birthday to the theme of Magnum PI, and - one week out - I have no Magnum car.

Is there anyone in the area with a red GTS (honestly, I'd take a 328, too, at this point) that they might be willing to contribute as a one-night "Event Rental?" I understand it's a logistical PITA, but I'm willing to pay someone for the time and effort, arrange professional enclosed transport to/from your location, and arrange all appropriate insurance to your satisfaction. If you'd like to drive it in yourself, you are welcome to join in the festivities and stay for a great dinner, and I'll throw in a gas card and a set of "Robin 1" replica plates for the commute.

Just for the record, we're talking about a group of mid-30s to late 60s doctors, lawyers, and real estate executives at a fine dining establishment (PM me for name), and not a bunch of frat boys at a Wrigleyville bar. The car will be kept indoors on carpet in a private party room nook, where no one will bother it. The engine need not be run to wheel it in from the street.

Years ago, my friends had this crazy idea to make my annual party be based on a 70s or 80s TV theme. I was hoping to surprise them with the best one yet. Can anyone help out for the cause (or give me a lead)?

cant help on the car but there appear to be a couple local cars available from dealers...i would try and reach out to them as they may be open to the idea especially if youre covering costs and giving some rental fee.

That may be the way to go at this point. It will give them some exposure for the car among a crowd that may have potential buyers. Couldn't hurt to ask.
