The team can put their scudetto on anything they like, particularly anything their driver is driving.

Pretty sure I can remember reading of him driving from Monte Carlo to Maranello and him having a bump to the tune that he couldn`t open the door.

Apparently, he managed to get hold of a `javelin` shaped piece of rod, thrust it into the door and did a temporary corrective.

Also thought it was to a 308 GTB but, can`t be sure.

Am I missing some spectacular irony, or do you not understand what the "shields" are and what they mean?

    Friends,

There is a story that he was late for a dinner one night at the factory. I am sure others have heard this but may have been told to me by a Ferrari guy. There was one space left in the parking que and he came down at high speed and slid the car perfectly into place. I have seen those crazy expert drivers on You tube so I am sure someone of his talent would have no problem doing that. Also of a story of him landing a helicopter in the atrium of a Monte Carlo Hotel and him hanging out the door using a flashlight to find a spot. Not sure if this is urban legend or not but he was a crazy guy and one of my heroes!

I know he raced a F 104 Starfighter as I have seen the video! It is at Fiorano. I have never been lucky enough to visit but have a copy of it on my desk!

Speaking of urban tales, I once heard or read ? That Gilles reportedly was driving like the bad ass(speeding) that he was,. somewhere near Quebec city with severall cop cars in pusuit trying to catch him...when they finally caught up and cornered him they approached the car with guns drawn only to find that it was thier national hero behind the wheel ! Instead of arresting him they all swarmed him for his autograph and hand shakes ...Any cops on this forum that can say they where amongst that group? lol

It's a kool tale even if not true...

I would believe it... I have an acquaintance who actually drove for Ferrari in '85 and '86 and he had a similar story. Driving in northern Italy (in a 6-Series BMW for some reason), stopped by cops for speeding... Recognized as a Ferrari driver... Asked to do a big smoky burnout and sent on his way...

...and he's not even Italian, nor a race winner (with Ferrari)!

I can only imagine that with Gilles involved, and it taking place in Quebec City... The police involved were probably thrilled to death!!

    Hi,

I've snapped these photos during a visit to Museo Ferrari in Maranello last January. This 1978 308 GTS is one of Gilles's "company cars" when he was in Ferrari.

Covering 432 kms=268 miles in 2 hours and 25 minutes means an average speed of 179 km/h=111 mph, and I can assure that the Autostrada from Montecarlo to Maranello for more than half of his length is definitely not straight...

    Bye
    Roberto

That single tailpipe exhaust just looks so wrong!

Ferrari's should always have a minimum of twin exhausts (one either side of the rear end - not two on one side!), and ideally, they should really have Quad exhausts!

If a single exhaust was good enough for GV then.....

I suspect GV didn't give a rats rectum as it was a company car!

For Me personally though, a single exhaust-pipe is far too mundane for a car as exotic as a Ferrari! - Ordinary cars have single exhaust pipes, and one thing Ferrari's are not, is ordinary!

Quad exhausts are exotic, they're not really necessary but they say to the World: "This car is something more than just transport!".

NEXT WEEK: Why American V8 muscle cars have to have two exhaust pipes with one on either side of the rear end of the car - Because it's just right! ;)

I guess when you get to drive a 312T3, T4, the dreaded 126 C, but the fantastic 126 C2 for a living, the tail pipe on your daily driver lessens in importance LOL

    . . . but you are right it does look odd . . .

So GV's car was a Euro model (I'm assuming this is a later steel bodied car, TRX, reverse lights in the signals) but I thought Euro cars have the larger front spoiler. Just curious, I guess the bigger air dam was a Euro option?
