It seems the whole F1 paddock are watching Jules Bianchi very closely as he is driving very well with the Marussia car and is doing some pretty amazing things. Some are saying he reminds them of when Alonso was with Minardi. I hope we see him with Ferrari sooner then later as I think he would be a great teammate for Alonso.

As I said recently, doesn't take long to make or break a reputation in F1 - Bat above your average (out point your 'mate) for a few races and you're on the radar.

:D I admit, he's off to a pretty good start, but "you cannot be serious", surely? *Far* too early for that yet IMO. We've only had a couple of "sketchy" races thus far.

Wasn't that long ago that PDR and Koby were the next coming. Sooty's destroying the former and the latter is going to tintops......

    Cheers,
    Ian

Well, I think Bianchi is doing something all good F1 drivers are able to do, and that is bringing results beyond the car's limitations/capabilities.

For him to be able to drive that obviously inferior Marussia within .2-.3s (cant remember exactly) of Vettel-Newey's redbull fastest lap is definitely praise worthy and speaks more about the driver than the car.

Totally deserving of the attention imo. As far as saying he's the next Alonso...quite a stretch for now.

    +1

He certainly "looks promising". And that always results in rumors flying.

I'm just not ready to anoint him the next Schu quite yet....... ;)

Don't recall now, did he do any Friday sessions last year?

    Cheers,
    Ian

+1 very promising. Let's see how often he pulls that car into Q2, if he does it regularly I would certainly hope he gets a proper seat at some point.

    Debatable IMO.

Sure, he was quick on occasion.

He also acquired a reputation as a crasher. Doesn't matter how quick you are, the #1 priority is not doing something stupid - You can wad it up occasionally, but gaining a reputation (justifiably or not is irrelevant) for making mistakes tends to shorten their careers. ;)

Sure, luck never seemed to go his way. [See, Webber, Mark and possibly this Bianchi kid among many others for the inverse situation of course..... ;) ]

Many, many guys over the years haven't had the opportunities he received.

I like the guy, I really do, I think he could have done much better in the right seat at the right time, blah, blah.

He also had 3+ years in the league..........

Sometimes it works out, other times they wind up in tintops. ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Kobayashi > Gutierrez. Sauber chased the $$$, that's what it comes down to.

What about Grosjean?!??!?!? Same exact situation IMO. Grosjean has a the a statistic than Koby but he's been in a better car. Doesn't look like his reckless and erratic driving has done him any harm except extending his contract.

Yup, it was all over the news. Nobody stands a chance against these state-sponsored pay drivers (I would call Telmex/the guy who owns it as close to state as you can get). Will be interesting to see how long the socialist Maldonado (his own words) will be able to keep his head above water now that Chavez (hurray!) is gone...

I can't wait to see Koby drive for Ferrari in the WEC, I think he will be a very exciting GT driver! :)

Don't think so, he did Formula renault 3.5 last year which are all at different tracks. I think he did the year before though, I remember writing something about him to watch him in GP2 that year but he didn't really do so great (much like Kobayashi in the same series...but in F1 he did much better than expected!).

Oh, just wikii'd him. 2 pts in the GP2 series for the first 8 races, then wins, finishes series in 3rd. Not all bad then, as soon as he clicked with the car, boom.

Bianchi has done well so far, but I think Chilton's lack of talent is making him look better than he really is. Plus I think the Marussia is a better car than the Caterham this year.

I think ART team is not great in GP2. Plus I think he did not do a full season the second year.

No doubt. But they've got to keep the lights on somehow.

We've pretty much always had pay drivers though. Certainly nothing new there.

    Cheers,

I find that you even know who "John Ross Jr" is a little alarming! :D [I'd never heard of him! :p ;)]

Anyway, for now at least it seems Marussia have moved a little ahead of Caterham - Many may not care, but that's a huge step forward for them. I honestly find the "soap operas" at the back as entertaining as those at the pointy end. [Maybe because I only ever worked at the ass end of an F1 grid :( ]

    Cheers,
    Ian

Certainly looked good in China qualifying today. Hopefully will get a quality ride next year if he keeps this up.

Jules looked good in F3 but didn't make much of a name for himself in GP2. Was however, very much in contention in Formula Renault 3.5 after losing in a controversial manner from Robin Frijns. Now, in F1, he finds himself in a rather comfortable position. No one expects much from the Marussia, nor from Max Chilton. So, for him, he should look very nicely against that backdrop.

.7s quicker than chilton...Bianchi's performance in that Marussia is staggering, he's racing the midfielders with a backfield car!

Just read something funny about the Rich boy. Apparently last year, he was racing against a couple of other racing drivers (including other GP2 pilots) and a sim racing enthusiast. After getting beaten by everyone, he started ramming someone of the track then got out of the simulator and ran off.

Don't really want to judge on one thing by itself but he seems like a fantastically spoiled child. Apparently his daddy sponsored him the whole way and cost him so £16m just go get to GP2 levels...
