    I have been driving with the speedometer not working. Thanks to the brotherhood I received tips to replace the pulse sensor located near the transmission oil level dipstick. I recently located and purchased a new pulse sensor and have been waiting for warmer weather to change the fluids and replace the sensor. I just took it out for a short ride and was surprised that the speedometer and the odometer are working! THE OLD PULSE SENSOR IS DISCONNECTED! Any clues on how this can be?

    Nope, you got me on that one, but I will mention that sometimes there are corrosion problems where the wiring harness plugs into the back of the speedo unit. you might want to pop the instrument pod off and check that area.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I already did that before purchasing the pulse sensor.

    If it's working while disconnected you obviously unplugged the wrong thing.

    I need re replace the speedometer sensor on my 348. Does anyone know if I need to drain the transmission oil first before removing the sensor?

    I know you don't need to drain it on a 355 if that helps.

    Thanks, I think the mounting on the 355 is higher than on the 348.

    I had to replace my 355 speed sensor. Seems like a messed up design for a so called "sealed" sensor to fail so often. At least they are easy to replace and not too expensive. It must be like the sensor on my bicycle. A magnet is attatched to the wheel spoke and sensor on the fork. As the magnet flys by the sensor it induces a small DC current. Darn thing should last a lifetime unless it's physically damaged. Just my thoughts on this.

    Mine seemed to be going bad at the track a few weeks ago and then it just started working again for the last 200 miles with no issue... Should I change it or wait until it goes bad again?

    I know someone is thinking it's like the guy who was waiting for his "oil light" to get brighter before worrying about adding oil.

    Anyone consider the fact that this sounds much like a connection problem rather than a sensor problem? Quite often it is......
