It's more an overall strategy of the govt to manage COE, which for me is not going to work as it's all down to short supply of COE. With a bigger population and less COE, we all know where COE is going. For the rich guys it's not a big deal putting more cash in fact a lot of tow kay type customers pay in full. It's the average joe who don't have the cash. They are putting cash aside to pay for the COV of the HDB or to renovate their apartment. No way they will have cash to pay for 50%. They are the ones that will get hit. Short story is if you are not cash rich, take a walk or get squeeze in the MRT/Bus.

agreed bro ... but as cost of living here is pushed up artificially, i think it may deter immigrants to some extent ... and possibly make locals think of migrating to lower cost economies ... and this will go against the govt push to increase population ...
I am pretty piss off with the new ARF rules, the 50% downpayment does not bother me as i usually do that with every car i buy as i tend to expense off my mthly installments. Migrate because of this, NO. Personal/Corp taxes are still competitive, only car policy sucks. Since i am out of town half the month, it does not make sense for me to continue keeping a nice car park at home. Cars that i like will now cost at least 1.3 million upwards, which works out to at least $130K per year just to drive 4K km per year. Math not so good. I have to give up a small pleasure in my life because of this stupid policy.

The problem is i don't spend enough time in one city to park a car there. In Shanghai today and for the last week was in 4 different cities. The most time i spend in one city is probably in Milan, probably 30 days a year but my meetings all in Milan and the roads are cobbled streets which will kill you if you are driving a ferrari.
