These are all true and they all made me laugh.

 

One of the early series of land cruisers or a series 3 land rover.

For the road an original beetle or maybe a early 70s 911s. But car tech moves ahead so fast that there is nothing really made for 50 years that is still in production and relevant.

 

I would say it is the Jeep Wrangler.

Great functional utility, reliable, and durable.

And the design hasn't changed all that much over its 70+ year history.

Now if you were to talk the ar15/16 of cars that's quite simply one of the various iterations of 911

 

I was intentionally nonspecific.

 

Normal cars? The Corolla. Ours has lasted almost 300K miles. If it wasn't for a hastily implemented EPA corrosion protection ruling in the early '90s, it would never stop.

Sports cars? The 3.0 - 3.2 911s. Some have gone 500K miles without ever having the engine opened.

Hypers? One of the contributors to evo owns a Murci that he gives track day lessons in throughout the season. It's taken an incredible amount of abuse, well into six-figure miles, and it just keeps on going. (If we had a similar concentration of tracks in the US, this would be a great way to earn one of these cars.)

That murci was recently crashed and is reportedly not worth fixing. Was reported on jalopnik not long ago.

 

well, let's see....an ak47 is good for killing people.....so is pretty much any car ever made.

well, in that case i'd say skoda or lada, only czech/russian cars i know really, sold around the world, loosely put together so sand and water can easily flush through them, and certainly they've killed many people :/

An AK-47 is focused, reliable, not necessarily "cutting edge", ubiquitous, and gets the job done.

You beat me with the Land Cruiser suggestion, but I disagree with the early series. There is only 1 Land Cruiser that can fit this bill and that's the 80 Series.

Built like a tank. Tremendous ground clearance. Triple locking differentials. It can tow a LOT. Found everywhere in the world. Spacious. Did I mention built like a tank? How about it can climb just about anything. If the 80 series Land Cruiser has weaknesses it's 2 things - the engine by today's standards isn't incredibly powerful (but hardly a wimp). And the approach and departure angles aren't as good as a Land Rover or Gelandewagen. But neither the Land Rover or Gelandewagen can TOUCH the 80 Series for quality. These things are built to go through hell and back.

When the SHTF, this is the vehicle I'll be mowing down zombies with. THE AK-47 of cars:

Surprisingly, they didn't realize it was a "Pickup", so they wrote it on the doors...ingenious.
