Nice video, Barry. I have driven on that track, but in a game-simulator I always thought that it should not be easy to get out of that banked curve at high speed. Loosing traction at the rear at that point is something that would scares me a bit, if I had the oportunity to drive in that track for real.
Thanks Red, looking forward to showing it to you! Maybe Roc will have a boys over his place for espresso and Grappa! I'll bring the Grappa.
Moisés, I lost traction in Turn 3 (The International Horseshoe) at 0:26 in that video. Exiting Turn 12 is the fastest part of the Rolex 24 Hours Course. Barry Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Barry, I do have the challenge specs for 1994 but that will be a base line setting. When we arrive at the track our trailer has the alignment equipment and we will fine tune the setting using tire temps, tire pressures and fifteen years seat of the pants track time. Have you set some alternative setting for road/track usage?
Rocco, the previous owner had his shop do an intermediate alignment; somewhere between stock/street and Challenge. He told me it was to avoid abnormal wear on his street tires. But I see that I'm getting some increased wear on the outer aspects of the rear slicks after seven track days last year. The car is going in next week for preparation for May's Watkins Glen event. It needs a tune-up and I'll be getting new slicks. The previous owner bought the current ones two years ago and used them for just three track days. We'll be deciding on the alignment to be used. In light of how the rear slicks are wearing, we'll be setting rear camber closer to Challenge specs. The street tires are doing well with the car's current alignment but I'd rather the car be set up more properly for the track.
Rocco, this picture of your car you posted last year shows the correct placement of your ANSA marmitte decals for 1994. I really hope I get to see it this year. Image Unavailable, Please Login
the muffler sheilds needed some attention after twenty years of heat, when you start cleaning and detailing items where do you stop? If you put them back old and tired looking they will look out of place and every time you open the engine lid your eyes will focus on the grimy muffler sheilds Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
it will be ready this year, and thanks again for the decals. When the car is ready I will send it to our decal guy to have the original decals replaced.
I drive it to and from the track. I drive it at least once a week at other times. Last year I had it trailered to the Glen. This year I'll do the same for the May event. For the Labor Day event, my friend will be taking his F355. We'll drive our cars up together taking a break every hour and a half...for my sake. That's about as long as I can go in the Challenge car before I have to stop and get out and regain my senses.
It's going to look and drive great! My intent was the same as yours...to restore the car's Challenge Series livery. Mine looked similar to yours when I got it... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Today, it looks the way it did in 1995... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rocco, I finally figured out what that decal was on the passenger door beneath the IMSA/Ferrari Challenge decal. Looking at pictures posted by Bruce B. Miller for the 1995 season, it appeared on cars driven at Road Atlanta. It must be a Road Atlanta decal.
No. And I'm sure they're long gone. I thought it was another Grand Am decal. But the IMSA decal on the front and combined IMSA/Ferrari Challenge Series decals on the sides would have that 1995 requirement covered. It's not terribly important as these cars had their decals changed frequently during the season.
I think the maple leaf on the roof makes the car! By the way, Rocco, my junior high school alma mater, "O Praise Our School," was set to the tune of "O Canada." It's a great national anthem!
canadians do more than drink beer. You will have to make arrangemants to drive mosport its a great track similar to the glen
