Very cool. Costs about $6 a can at Home Depot and you need about 1.5 cans per wheel. I did several light coats until fully covered. I used 3x5 cards to slip between the lip of the wheel and tire. However, you don't really need to even do that as the over spray on the tire just peels off in one long piece, really crazy. It comes out flat and slightly textured. Then it just peels off the wheel when you want to go back to stock silver with no damage to the wheels. Kinda fun.

I'm only keeping it on for the next month or so as I'm doing a car show in mid May and want to have the stock silver. However, when reseaching this I remember being on a website where someone was saying they had it on for a year now and it still looked great. Apparently some people just put it on their daily drivers in the winter back east to protect their wheels from the severe weather.

I did the wheels on my daily driver Audi A4 last October, and it still looks great.

    Good post!
I am planing on doing my wheels next week with the plasti dip.

Did you spray the inside of the wheel?

How did you clean the wheel prior to painting?

It also looks like you didn't paint inside the bolt holes or did you remove the paint from this area?

I think he only did not do the bolt holes on the test wheel,,,, the one he shows peeling.

On the final job, it looks like the bolt holes are painted.

Definitely a good thing to do way outside of the garage. Whatever solvent they use is nasty. Cool stuff to play with.

For applications where you want it to stay put, they sell a primer that makes it stick hard! The primer only comes by the pint or larger. So you need an HPLV gun to shoot it.

Just read a thread over on the maserati forum of a guy who did his whole Quattroporte with plasti dip. Not my style but he posted a video of him peeling it off the car with no damage to paint underneath. Looked just like a wrap!

I didn't spray the inside of the wheel, just the face. I used 1 inch blue painters tape on the inside, closest to the openings from the front of the wheel to get a nice clean line between the black face and the silver inside the wheel. I just used windex to clean the wheels prior to painting. Wheels were already pretty clean :)

It took about two hours for the fronts and then two for the backs. It dries fast between coats, but I really took my time. KEY POINT: Don't spray any further than a foot or so from the rim as you will get a more fuzzy/fury (for lack of a better) term finish as opposed to a more matte textured finish. I didn't spray inside the wheels.

Exactly correct..:) The test wheel I did not do the bolt holes, I did when I painted them again.
