Webber leaving?

According to Bild (yeah, not the most reliable source) RedBull will not extend Webber's contract past the end of the season.

He's obviously not content playing second fiddle. Red Bull will find someone who is, most probably not a rookie with something to prove. Kobayashi or Kovalainen spring to mind immediately.

I thought this was always going to be Webber's last year with Red Bull.

 

Ahh yes, Flavio Briatore, the moral compass of F1. I always take everything he has to say very, very seriously.

Webber is unlikely to find a very good car next season if he leaves Red Bull.

His age is now working against him for a move to a) Ferrari, b) McLaren or c) Lotus which could have a vacant seat next year. Mercedes is already provided.
I cannot see him going to one of the "lesser" teams like Catherham or Marussia.

So, I can see him heading for Oz and racing V8 for a while.

 

I think that about Massa every year and I'm wrong about it every year.

 

I was thinking the same thing - he's not likely to get a "good" seat.

 

Good riddance.

 

This isn't really a story, he has signed one year contracts for 3 years in a row.
Of course if he has a stellar year.....the age requirement doesn't seem to be as prevelant as previous generations. Every driver has said that these cars get easier to drive every year, and they don't have to push hard. Rarely do you see a driver even sweating much anymore.
Webber looks like he could keep going if he chooses....

 

LOL! Had to laugh at that one.

I thought Flavio Briatore was just using the incident as an opportunity to do a bit of chest thumping in the direction of those who still have jobs in F1, as he can't compete with them on the track any more.

Also the full context of Briartores statement is that he said 'either Vettel or Webber will leave red bull after this season'. Not exactly rocket science to figure that out....

Oops, in F1 parlance that means he is a goner.

 

Mark is tweeting already that he is preparing for China. Its a bit early to say he is gone for next year. In fact his position might end up being stronger. This probably will shake the team up a bit and refocus things on the 'team' rather than a driver. Its a bit early to send him off.

 

I would bet that before the season is over if the opportunity presents itself that Vettel repay the favor by letting Webber win; ala Schumacher/Barrichello. I really think Vettel
is shocked by the outrage directed at him; he was basically reduced to tears. every senior person, drivers & team principals are outraged by his actions. Only a few loonies have supported Vettels move.

 

Very much agreed. This has been already and will be a growing year for Vettel even with 3 titles. By lights out in China the world will have very much moved on from this.

IMHO Vettel did the right thing. Webber has no chance in winning the title, only Seb has and every point counts.

 

If "anything goes," and team directives can be ignored, then Webbo should put Seb in a wall at the earliest opportunity.

He won't, but I wish he would. Vettel's the better driver, Webber the better man.

IMO, the real loser, the guy who looks the worst, is Horner.

 

Wow; I know we disagree on alot, and you want Vettel in Ferrari, but pretty shocking that anyone would say Vettel did nothing wrong. An order is an order; any deviation from that is a violation. Right or wrong. It's black & white.
Any car in the top 3 teams has a shot at the title 2 races in

 

Technically what Vettel did was wrong. He disobeyed a team order.

Ethically I have no problem with it. The order was not in line with the spirit of competition which is essentially the reason why the sport exists in the first place.


Big picture: What Vettel did helps the sport. What Horner and Webber did ultimately hurts it.

 

I'm really not going to debate the difference between technically & ethically right or wrong.
I'm no angel, but to me there's right or wrong. Done now.
