Not really a debate (unless people want it to be :) ), just stumbled across a vid that I'd not seen before. I'd seen the factory part but not the test drive at the end. Watching from about 2 mins 30 in it's interesting to see how the driver (Ferrari test driver I'm guessing) has no trouble handling the car - looks pretty ballanced bearing in mind he diliberately puts her into a slide a couple of times. Also interesting to see how smooth his straightening up of the wheels seems to be as he pulls her out of the slide. Maybe those who say a 348 doesn't handle well for x or y reason should look closer to home :)

I think crappy motor journalist´s spoiled by soft comfy rides could not cope with racing car manners. Drive the car with confidence flat out, the video shows it works perfectly. All cars are not built the same way and definitely not for the same purposes.

Just got back from a Ferrari Rally yesterday. My lowly 348 was easily with the pack on the straights, and when it came to tight twisties, most of the other cars were holding her back and cramping her style. That car can zip around a tight corner effortlessly and with confidence. And that's against a bunch of cars with those #@%$&%& flappy paddle gearboxes.

Even more impressive...this is clearly prior to the improvements made in the later cars (just judging by the fact that the rear wheels are clearly not on the wider casting wheels, etc)

I used to race a '91 and believe as you do. There is no question that wider track made it better but that was not the later geometry change that was preferred. Widening the track of either subframe helped.

My only complaint with a '91 348 was when driving on a rough road (not really rough but not smooth either) the car tended to bounce around alot at higher speeds. Maybe it was just the way my car was set up. Car was great around turns and I loved the way the car sounded.

Hi FBB. I've got a '93 (first registered but on the essembly line in '92) TS. I don't actually race but love all the mechanical/aero side of the sport and have several mates who race a lot. I think (though please correct me if I'm wrong) the most major changes to the geometry were made to the line in Nov '91 and then Jan '92 at about the same time I believe the battery was shifted up front to improve handling. I seem to recall the widening of the track was for the GTB/GTS/Spider in the UK so '94 but the SS may have had that before we got it? The last Geo changes we got here were with the pick up points, also for the GTB/GTS/Spider.

Anyway, a gradually improving formula but I think as the car in the vid has black sills etc it should be a '89-'93. Whichever year it is it does seem to handle ok to me when someone who knows what they're doing is at the wheel. Guess you can confirm this. :)

The geometry change occured at the time of the Specialé. The upper control arm was lowered at the chassis pickup points.

Hi Mitch. Think that's when you guys maybe got the changes. In Europe I think it was Nov '91 and Jan '92 for the initial changes, then further changes in '94. We didn't get SS cars (didn't need them, the power is higher on Euro cars anyway :) ) so we had the initial setup, quite a few changes about the time I've said, then a few more with a bump in power for the GTB/GTS/Spider.
