modern era daytonas (of which the leopard would qualify) never have engravings on the casebacking...

unless the caseback was switched with one of the stainless steel ones that's presented to the Daytona 24 race winners (which are engraved with wording to that effect to honor their win). not impossible, but pretty unlikely..

One of the reasons helpful posters requested front and rear photos, even of poor quality. Non watch guys don't realize that some of the details are not so minute as they think. I noted at least 6 issues with the fake in the first two photos he posted, probably 2-3 would be detectable even with a poor quality photo.

Here's a funny story about a "fake" Rolex Daytona...

great story ! thanks for sharing

on another note, that Leopold Daytona is too flashy. Don't really like it. The regular Daytona or Submariner is much more tasteful.

    BTW,

Had the same thing happen to me. I bought my brother a Rolex from an AD (My AD and all around jeweler) for a best-mans gift. When he took back there it to get sized, one of the sales ladies took the watch from him and told him is wasn't real. He said, "It better be. It came from here." Then the sales lady figured out he was my brother and put it all together. I can't imagine how embarrassed she was. I never told her boss or held it against her.

Why would she think it was fake if she just sold it? Kinda funny though.

Nice story Yin! I was laughing the entire time

The facts as I read them:

He says he found a $71,350 Daytona Rolex at a garage sale

He offers it for sale here without any authentication

I urge him to visit an authorized dealer and get it authenticated. Takes 5 minutes to authentucate.

He sits on the watch for days.

His friend authenticates it and he sells it the same morning.

    Fraud? I'm not a judge.

I hate to pile on, but as a watch collector I cannot imagine a real Leopard Daytona selling so fast (unless it was at a garage sale price). There just is not a lot of demand for the watch at the price point it is valued at.

Yes, I agree completely with that. That would be on TZ, WN, ect.. for months at a minimum.

Well, I was gonna buy this POS bowl at a yard sale because it came close to matching the rest of my Corelle, but some joker snatched it up first & resold it for $2MM!

A Rolex AD was hit for $600,000 plus lost in 23 stolen watches. Smash and grab job.

I doubt this is one from that. I think this one is probably a fake replica. I wonder how many luxury forums have his garage find with an offer to sell? He has 12,000+ posts here so I assume he is legit. But then he refused to post pictures or authenticate.
