If you only go to dragstrips...Saying you have never seen a Ferrari at the track is a ridiculous as some posts here. I have been to some pretty ****ty track day and there were always a couple of Ferraris.
Tell u what Andrew: Why don't you post a video of YOUR Ferrari at the track and I post a video of MY sports cars at the track!;-) My point is that only Bob, Jerome and some clown with a BMW bring up McLaren resale and that their business model is going to fail over and over again!! Its as if they get a sick pleasure over watching the 12C's resale values or speculating about McLaren's future! Most of us who own a 12C love them and have no plans to sell them! BTW....on M.c.l.a.r.e.nLife.com... There are plenty of Guys who own cars from BOTH companies but many of us are sick of the dumb diatribe than comes from the Fiat Fanbois on this site. We go to T.e.a.m.speed or F.e.r.r.a.r.I.life for intelligent discussions. ;-)
Thank you Mr. Righteous Policemen of the internet. BTW: Have you caught any Mc life thread discussions of FF's dropping in value over there? Maybe you can slap their hands also. NO ONE HERE is dissing the car. What we are discussing is what Mac can do to correct the situation. CORRECT IT -- like make things better. Is that so wrong in your book?
Bob: Where is the constructive criticism(making things better) in this post? I have seen countless posts like this stating the SAME point. Its just worthless speculation. I would think Ferrari guys would want McLaren to succeed so that Ferrari would have to up their game. Btw... Ferrari resale is great As long as U are only talking about the F458. Scud resale, 599 resale - Not so much! But hey... Who cares as long as we can keep bashing McLaren right
What does that have to do with this subject? Some people are discussing Mclaren resale values which are puzzling to say the least not only because they are dropping fast here but are stable in Europe. I for one think it is an interesting discussion as i was really surprised to see you could buy a low mileage 2012 Mp4 for 200k and would love to understand why. But i fail to see the relevance of Ferraris and trackdays. If speculating about Mclaren's future, makes one a a Ferrari Fanboy then crying about these posts makes you a Mclaren fan boy.. If it's too much to take, no one is forcing you to stick around. Te@msp33d is a nice place too.
I've said several times in this thread 1) Mac needs to find a way to stop the slide in resale values or they will not be able to get new buyers to buy them. Care to disagree here? 2) They need to develop the 911 fighter as quickly as possible because they need the additional volume. 3) The 12c at 200K is a complete bargain and anyone thinking of getting a car at that price is winning. So, where is the dissing? If you ignore the facts in front of you, as the Mc fan boys want to, then the problems will not go away. Now, you want my idea to stop the free fall of values: Here they are, but they are not pretty: 1) Mac does an immediate MSRP reduction of 30 grand to all new buyers. 2) Mac sends every new owner who still owns their car a check for 30 grand. 3) Mac does a dealer buy back program to remove some of the older cars from the market. These are used for press cars, long term tests, track trial cars for customers etc. If they did that, the immediate response would be remarkable and extremely positive to the brand and it's owners. The cost: several million dollars. The results: they become heroes. Now, do I sound like a hater to you? I'll tell you what a hater is: "Those idiots who bought those POS's... hehe! Look at them now!" That's a hater... like the people on Mclife who like to cut and hot link Fchat problems so they can laugh at F car owners and their crappy "Fezza's".
Come on, if you read other threads, you will see people know that the Scud, the 599, the FF etc have dropped a lot. Nobody is denying it. People buying these cars thinking they will lose <10% per year are in for a surprise.
I like the way Mp4 drives, looks and feels. Once you are inside,it's very comfortable too,at current prices for a slightly used car, makes a very viable daily driver too. I tried very hard to make a case for myself, decided otherwise after seeing how stupid and difficult it is for me to get in and out of it,all because of the stupid door. It's just too difficult and inconvenient for anyone over 6ft tall to make himself into an origami every time entering or exiting that car. Could be one of the reasons for so many cars dumped so early, stopped me from buying one too.... Otherwise, love it...
I have never doubted the cars performance but I do doubt McLarens viability as a manufacturer of street cars. Tough business that...even in good times
And I am a car guy! I don't really care if the car is made is Germany, Italy, USA or Japan as long as it performs and gives me a big smile! But I don't really think thats what we are discussing. We are discussing yours posts that make grandiose points about McLaren's demise without A Single Fact, or proof supporting your arguement! Btw, I know who u are Jerome... Didn't You race NSX's in HSR? Ritesh- NSX and 12C owner
Bob, Great points. Though I don't see McLaren writing me a check for $30K! I agree they need a car in the $125K range but personally they need to start marketing! I have never seen a car that is so poor at marketing and building owner loyalty! Regarding resale: It hurts to see my car lose $60K the 1st year but I don't see it losing $50K next year! It's not likely. At some Point the resale drop will slow down.
Yes I did race a supercharged NSX in HSR. Class champ in 2007. Lots of info regarding McLaren shareholders disenchantment in the news...FT, WSJ and more
Not true; here is the breakdown on the McLaren group; McLaren Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Mclaren Automotive though is separate and I believe is split it up as they have acquired outside investors. I haven't looked to see the breakdown on that though. Perhaps Peloton Erik can shed light on that. Kevin
The McLaren Automotive LTD is privately held and operates as a subsidiary of McLaren Group Limited. The automotive group is looking for additional investors now of £100M. Peter Lim is one of the major investors since about 2011. IMO McLaren will find their funding and prosper Look where Porsche was a couple of decades ago They were struggling in late eighties early nineties Now they are a powerhouse
True. With the right product and marketing, a turn around can happen. Apple was once on the ropes too.
I hope so as I think they are building a great car in the MP12. When they hit 175k one will be in my garage
First one listed under 200K. Only 2500 miles. These things are becoming a steal. This car comes with the CCB option and light weight wheels. Image Unavailable, Please Login
One sold today at auction in Florida for $191k with 1k miles in the McLaren burnt orange color with Carbon brakes and Meridian sound
I'm glad I bought my R8 instead of an MP4 at least with the Audi I don't give a dam what the resale value will be after putting on 18,000 mi in less that 8 months... Honestly if you worry about the resale value you really can't afford a car like this...
