Did the Bosch Saab motor fix and VW valve. I continue to get the E5 error popping up after 3 to 4 minutes of driving. Clock also flashes and does not retain memory. Please help me resolve.

Generaaly unplugging the unit then reconnecting clears that.

Clocks always flash after a reset. Is it possible you have a bad ground?

I agree, to me looks like you are losing power to the unit ...

I resolved the E5 issue, I adjusted the temp at 72°, released the brass fitting that sits on the D stem, adjusted it to the middle, and locked it down. After doing so, I was able to control the Heater valve adjustment correctly. It took 2 trys…..noone suggested this to me, I just trialed it and it worked. The entire time I had an ohm meter hooked up to the motor and watched how adjusting the Temp effected the resistance.

    Thanks!

Thanks, I already read that post and have purchased the VW valve (as it was almost for free).

Well worth doing it in that order before getting a new motor! but I just wanted to know the part #
as I could not find it and it may has to be changed if the other tricks does not do the job?
Maybe someone else also could have use for this sometime ;)

I would do a bit more of diagnosis before you replace the motor.

The E5 error is a simple resistor check error. In the motor there is a potentiometer. If the valve is open it is at 0 Ohm... if it is closed it is at 5 k Ohm (or the other way round, forgot).

Anyway - the E5 error is triggered if the clima control unit wants to move the valve but the value for the resistor doenst change.

For example, you put the temperature to "low" the valve closes and should report (around) 0 Ohm. You put the temp to high, it opens and reports (round) 5 k Ohm. (For me it was around 4800 Ohm as max value).

The E5 error is now thrown if you put the temp to high and the it stays for example at 2000 Ohms. So the clima unit THINKS the valve doesnt move.

You can simply measure those values at the motor itself.

So the reason for the E5 error you are getting is wrong resistor value. This could be cause by:

    A) The motor not turning the valve
    B) The valve not turning while the motor turns
    C) The potentiometer broken

For me it was option C. Cleaning the poti and adjusting it correctly solved the issue. 0$ spent...

Best is you pull out the whole thing, measure it and take it apart.

Put a pic of the poti in the attachement. The pink stick turns (or should turn) as the valve turns and gives back the resistor value.

rostra, this was very helpful info!
I fixed my valve (also for free) a few months ago :)
Someone had already tried to fix it and I assume both the valve an motor was already changed but not correctly installed as the potentiometer and the valve was not in sync…
I opened the "gearbox" to the motor and set it up to sync with the valve and first time starting the car e5 was gone and has never appeared since fixing (about 4 weeks).
