Thanks Wayne. I knew you'd respond, but not answer it in four minutes.

Don't have an answer for you, but maybe some additional shots will help someone else identify it. Looks like a homemade "special" to me.

For some reason my computer won't show the bottom portion of your James Dean picture. The magazine is indeed Road & Track, and it can be narrowed down to either April, August, or October of 1955, based on the Jaguar ad on the rear cover. JD died on 9/30/55. If I could see the rest of the picture, I might be able to pinpoint it.

The white car looks like an old NSU but seems early for that car. The right page looks like 250 Ferrari but I am not an expert...

Now we're coming through, my computer is sloooooooooowwww today.

The issue is August 1955, he's viewing pages 34-35, the report on the Turin Auto Show. Upper left is a cutaway display of the new Fiat 600 Sedan, below that a row of 600 Sedans, an Allemano convertible, and a Zagato (?) Coupe. At the bottom is an Abarth 1100 Spyder by Boano. On the right page is a rear view of a Vignale Fiat, next to a Monterosa convertible on an Alfa1900SS chassis. The center picture is Fiat 8V by Pininfarina. At the bottom is a Boano Fiat (with Continental kit?) and a Ferrari America.

Definitely VW, but probably a one-off. The body rear of the windshield looks very Puma, but not exactly.
