Nice work. What solvent / cleaner did you use?

A basic cleaner called Spray Nine. Old toothbrush made all the difference.

That is the point of my post. The orig order made no sense... Now it does. Typically hit Sport first for a spirited drive then turn off ASR for track etc. The blank switch is now the one hidden behind the steering wheel while driving.

How did you clean the actual switches to make sure that the spray 9 didn't get into the electronics? How did you then get the spray 9 off? Wet rag? I'm afraid of screwing up the electrical contacts within the switches.

Very Nice and That Makes Sense!!!!!
I will do something similar, but I replaced the blank switch with a new Sport switch that I modified to become a on/off switch for my radar detector. Will have to think this through.

    thanks!!!

Great idea...I was thinking garage door opener. Unfortunately the dummy switch is a real dummy...can't make it work. I opened it to check.

I took my time - poured a cappucino -and opened each one up ;-) I'm thinking you would be fine to clean them without opening just be sure to let them dry before reinstalling.

I thought I read somewhere not to open the switches as they are almost impossible to get back together...spring pops out????

Tricky but not impossible. I used a tupperware tub to ensure I did not lose parts. Back together easily using optical (small) screwdrivers.

That steamed milk probably helped out as an additional solvent! Hot and steamy! I'm glad to see none of the switches fell in your coffee :)

I purchased a new 'sport' switch and had to open it up and make it a on/off switch. That was a few years ago, don't remember exactly what I had to do.

    Awesome difference, thank you.
Was there enough wire length to rearrange the switches?

Spray Nine can be found at Ace Hardware or online at Auto stores:

Tons. You don't even have to de-sticky to do the mod. Just pop them out..takes 5 mins.

How easy was it to get the goop off with Spray Nine? Did you take the parts off and let them soak first??? Just curious, did you try any of the solvents others on FChat have recommended???

In the fall I did my doors with concentrated alcohol and it was a pain. No need to soak. Spray 9 + elbow toothbrush grease.
