it's not my quote John, I just quoting the article, but I too agree that the statement is a bit over the top, heck we even have Fords with motorized adjustable pedal assemblies!
LOL the article is pretty useless IMO, too short, and too focused on one vehicle in comparison (P4/5) to make it any relevant argument on the discussion
I like PF's F70 a lot better than the cut and paste design Luca choose. I think it stood on it's own rather than rehashed P 4/5 and the 458. La Ferrari's front is bad overbite and it's front overhang to that beak will be a road scrapper. Design by committee. I think Luca's comment in that article about PF is pathetic. There's a reason why Luca era Ferrari's are MUCH less collectable/valuable than Enzo era Ferraris and PF being left to do their thing is a big part of that. Luca's meddling in Design was something Enzo was smart enough to understand is a very bad idea.
I've now done this to both jm2 and you, Jeremy. I guess I'm used to seeing quotes "quoted" by contrasting their text with darker backgrounds. I need to adjust to practices here. (Keep in mind I've only been here six years . . . )
The Pininfarina proposal is the one with what seems like a rectangular Pininfarina badge in front of the rear wheels that is at the Ferrari museum? Re: the issue of Montezemolo´s Ferraris less collectable than Enzo Ferrari´s Ferraris, I suppose that age and number of units produced has a lot to do with it too. So far, Luca´s F355 is more valuable than Enzo´s Mondial.
Get a grip. An F50 or an Enzo (Luca era) will set you back a lot more than an F40 (Enzo era). It doesn't make sense comparing classics/collectibles to 90's/00's models because the classic market is booming right now, there's a huge bubble and cars are going for ridiculous money. I'd take Luca's 360 or 456 over Enzo's 308 or Mondial any day.
The odds of ANY Luca era Ferrari ever trading for anything of the same order of magnitude of many Enzo era cars are less than zero.
Nothing made by Enzo in the 70s or 80s is so expensive now like some things he made in the 50s or 60s. Different eras, different volumes of production, different forms of racing, and different cars. Older and rarer usually is more expensive. And I thing that this applies to almost all car manufacturers, not just Ferrari.
You are right but what is really important is how good today's cars are. I reckon that today Ferrari is building the best cars in its history.
The same is true for almost all manufacturers. A Veyron will never be worth more than a Type 41. An Enzo will never be worth more than a 250 GTO. Luca has done a huge amount for Ferrari. The company didn't die with the old man.
Regardless of the appearance P 4/5 by Pininfarina works better than an Enzo does performance wise.... CH
There's no "hype" outside of this forum to be fair. Jim just constantly brings it up and talks about it, regardless of whether it's relevant to the topic or not. I like it though. Prefer the original Enzo design but still, always nice to see something different.
I agree that the front of LaF is the least attractive part of the car, and it does not seem to integrate very well with the rest of the design. However, the side and rear are very well done. Overall I think it is a major improvement in styling over the Enzo, which seems a stand alone creation of .. er... "limited aesthetics." But it does not impress me with brilliance the way the 458 does.
The 458 is a lot more cohesive. La Ferrari is very cut and paste. It's also strangely doughy especially in the rear T.
Very true. When I visited Pininfarina a few years ago with a great group of car people (including some well-respected designers) we took a bunch of photos of the Enzo model with people standing with their spouses. When we saw P 4/5, barely anyone noticed it next to the Maserati Birdcage. For me, I had no emotional response to P 4/5 when I first saw it, contrary to how I felt when I saw the Enzo for the first time. P 4/5 just felt like some old car made to look modern. It wasn't a fresh new idea. When people see P 4/5 is a "Ferrari" they take a second look. To me, that helps give it some interest. But that's ironic considering Jim's distaste for Ferrari. It's also ironic that P 4/5C is based on a Ferrari. IMHO, it's time for Jim to move on and build a new car that has nothing to do with Ferrari, given that he hates the brand so much. And then don't try to use Ferrari sites to market it. Remember that Jim said Enzos would fall to $500K several years ago shortly after P 4/5 came out. And he said the technology in LaFerrari would be inferior to P1 and 918. IMHO, P 4/5 (and P 4/5 C) are dinosaurs that only stays alive by attaching two brand names to them, one which Jim hates. Very strange indeed.
this is only your 4th post to this forum, and all are negative in context so far, if you wish to continue with simply bashing an individual or their vehicle, this isn't the place to do it moving on...
