    Hi all,
My dealer is telling me I can get a July delivery on a new 458 coupe allocation they have and MSRP is $269,999 pre-options
I'm in Canada btw. Does this seem right - I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on trading my current 458 in for this if it smells right.

Thank you in advance for input

I bought mine less than a year ago, Aug delivery, MY 2013. Base Canadian price was $267,900. Sound like a $2K increase since then, which is reasonable.

Do you guys have some kind of VAT or importation tax that makes it so much more expensive?

No that is the base price. There is a 13% combined federal and provincial sales tax on top of that!

Canadians got used to paying more for our cars when the Canadian dollar was worth 70 cents US. Now that the currancy is virtually equal, Canadians still pay more. True for all makes and models, but more true on European Cars.

The manufacturers argue that it is a small market with its own regulations, which are similar but not identical to the States, so it costs them more.

Also true for electronics, appliances, clothing, most things... Lots of cross boarder shopping as a result, but importing cars has a bunch of issues, including warranty coverage.

We do have a 6.1% duty on non-NAFTA vehicles, so that accounts for a fair bit of the disparity in price. On top of that there's currency fluctuations (a point or three makes quite a difference on prices at these levels) and the other reasons Bob touched on.

To the OP - everything you've posted sounds right, but what will really matter is the difference you're offered between your current 458 and the new car.

It's not all bad news, it's easier to incorporate as a professional and pay a lot less tax than in the U.S.

US - high on income tax, but low on consumption tax.

Most other countries are the reverse.

I paid the same MSRP of $267 900 for my 2012 Italia. This was a reduction of $11 800 from the 2011 base price and also includes the 7 year maintenance plan. I still have PDFs of both price lists.

Just out of interest, why would you trade your current 458 for a new one?
