It's given in the 512BB OM, but the temporal firing order of the engine does not match the order of the wires going around the distributor cap because the 512BB uses the double-ended, two-level distributor rotor -- is that confusion factor what's giving you difficulty?

With cylinder 1 being behind the driver (LHS)

    12-11 -10 -9 -8 -7
    1-2- 3 - 4 -5- 6

Keeping in mind that the distributor alternately fires off of one level, then the other level.

Shouldn't that be "With cylinder #1 being behind the RHS seat" David?

Top view (front of car to left)

    RH bank 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6

    LH bank 12-11-10- 9- 8- 7

The corresponding wire order going around the distributor cap would be 1-10-5-7-3-11-6-9-2-12-4-8

You are absolutely correct, Steve...A bit of dyslexia appears to have set in, I suppose. And things can get even more complicated, as who knows what numbers may be found stamped on the distributor cap.

Amen to that! Unfortunately, the quality of the online BB512 OM scan is very poor, but I'd swear that on the OM schematic, even though the wires going from the distributor cap seem to go to the correct cylinders, and are placed showing that the rotor (correctly) rotates CW (as when viewed looking down on the top of the distributor cap), the cylinder number labeling shown on the distributor cap on the schematic is totally wacky. Anyone got a better quality scan of this portion of the BB512 OM schematic that they could post?

    So it seems 2 votes for: 1-10-5-7-3-11-6-9-2-12-4-8, 1 vote for: 1-9-5-12-3-8-6-10-2-7-4-11 ?

    Thanks Joe, that is helpful.

as you see on my picture the complete firing order for all 12 cylinder is:

    1-9-5-12-3-8-6-10-2-7-4-11

    the firing order for the right bank is: 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 -4

    the left bank: 9 - 12 - 8 - 10 - 7 - 11

problem ( if it is a problem :) ) for the left bank is that the rotor is 180 ° to the right bank

also the 1st cylinder is right side front, so passenger side, not driver side ( except you have a RHD car :) ), the 6th cylinder right side back, the 7th cylinder left side back and the 12th cylinder left side front

    as steve already told today

Thanks -- yes, that's very useful (and, surprisingly ;) -- seems to confirm the wire order and direction on the distributor cap), but it doesn't really confirm what is shown on the BB512 OM schematic. Unfortunately, the online scan is really poor resolution, but I'm guessing (the resolution is that poor) that I can discern the one-digit numbers from the two-digit numbers shown on the dist. cap symbol and that pattern seems completely wrong.
