With expanding dampers on pushrod suspension you might be able to get enough lift from the nose to avoid such things? I am not sure if you have addressed that component

We have those and use them a low speeds but at high speeds the suspension doesn't work well at that height so we also use skid pads that transmit force to the chassis.

Are you allowed to do this because it is a custom build? I know they had to remove them from the 918 spyder concept because they were not allowed in the US.

You could also use the new boxer six in the new porsche GT3. It puts out 450hp. I am not sure if you could get one, but the 918 spyder gas motor is a v8 that puts out around 500 and is extremely small. Also, what tubs are you considering other than the 4C? Do you think you are more likely to take the gearbox from a race car or street car?

The PDK in the new GT3 is also phenomenal.

We're looking at a lot of stuff.

Basically this will be a one off concept car that could be production ready easily should a manufacturer be interested.

Famous F1 designer who designed a car called the F1 ;), the first designer who springs to mind when "small car", "light weight" are mentioned.

just had the same thougt....but seems it won´t be murray....to bad, he´s one of my all time favourites, most of all because he was able do design very competitive cars and at the same time some of the most beautifull f.1s from all times...brabham bt 53/53 come to mind...

As far as dimensions to go is it safe to say the goal would be Lotus Elise size perhaps marginally bigger? Whats going to interest me particularly with this project is the line you draw between technology and raw driving enjoyment. How these two are balanced is going to be interesting. Or is the ethos going to be similar to the Dino, lightweight fun package with enough power to be fast and some technology to benefit the driving experience.

We're thinking about two different ways to go.

One would use an Alfa 4C as a platform. There's a nice TTV6 Maserati engine that could work but as we have really developed P 4/5 Competizione completely including basically everything including the engine we're also thinking about a 430 platform which obviously would be somewhat bigger. The 4C platform would weigh less and have less HP. 2000lb-?/420HP. The 430 platform would weigh 2400LB-? and could have 600hp. Using what we've developed that one could also have a 3 pedal sequential manual.

    Just thinking out loud.

Part of our decision is how P 4/5 Competizione Road version will be to drive on the road. It's amazing on the track but not yet sure how she'll be on the road.

The one who teaches Aerodynamics at the Politecnico di Torino maybe? I know he worked with the Podium guys.

    I vote 4C, but I'm biased :D

After 14 pages it appears that averything is wide open.

I'd go with the 4C platform too. It's new, at the beginning of its' lifespan. Your developments on it would be proprietary, and it could help recoup part of the cost.

    Best,

    Jack.

We have to see how the design we want to use looks sized on both platforms.

    Dear Jim.

Consider using a Busso V6 24 valve engine as a tribute to Alfa Romeo engineering in general and Guissepe Busso in particular, a brilliant en modest engineer. It is compact, light and can be mounted transversely. With twin turbo's this engine can give up to 750 BHP easily. With a Supercharger / compressor it will make a linear 500 BHP and be more docile but with plenty of torque. Relatively small mods with make it rev to 8000 rpm. Gives amazing sounds and has great looks too.

Look at all the research done for the Alfa Diva Concept. With just 290 HP, because N/A, it is already very quick and nimble. It has the exact dimensions you described and its design is AR Tipo 33 based.
The show model was so heavy because it used Alfa 159 components but it has high potential, is beautifully shaped with great technical finesse and aerodynamic possibilities.
In fact its design is used for the 4C but its dimensions grew a lot making the 4C wider then the LaFerrari.

Evolve the Diva Concept with a 4C carbon tub, lightweight active aerodynamics, add rear-wheel steering and it will put to shame any modern sports-car. Steer away from hyper-cars and race-cars, they are unpleasant to live with as a daily driver.

Hope you will give Alfa Romeo engineering a closer look, it is a great car brand with an amazing history and they could use the extra exposure in a positive way. MultiAir is a technical invention worth looking into.

    Kind regards, GJ

Brilliant Napolis - many thanks for sharing with us! Like many here I am a big fan of add lightness :)

Much as I like the idea of cameras rather than mirrors for the reduced drag the issue I see with them is that when you glance at a mirror you do not need to refocus as you are already looking into the distance... a screen on the other hand is a picture of distance so you have to refocus on short range to see it.

Hope you find a solution to this :)

As a fan of NA motors I'd love to see a small capacity high RPM V8... but understand your interest in turbo motors and a small TT V6 will be great!

One small detail though - F1 is to going a single turbo V6 configuration ;)
