Not having dealt personally with Chris but having followed his threads here for years, I think you may be over-reacting to his comment. I think Chris' comment was meant in jest, but I would also suspect that Chris was only trying to indicate that he did have personal friends who are knowledgabe about and capable of properly authenticating a Rolex in the proper manner you have outlined. The "stop by his home" part would likely be in jest, where he would mean "stop by his store or their store" where they do have the proper equipment for authentication.

Just an assumption on my part, but that's how I understand those posts in this thread.

I don't believe Chris would ever knowingly sell a fake Rolex.

Please keep your E testosterone in check. (Yeah, I actually said that) ;)

    Ummm, as you've only been here a month . . . it appears you are unaware;

VTC has over 25 years of watch repair experience. Lots and lots and lots of customers on this very site, be they for repairs, purchases or repeat purchases. I don't ever recall a single complaint.

VTChris' reputation on this board is well-established, pristine, and highly respected among the general membership as well as the subset of highly knowledgeable watch aficionados that hang out in this subforum. You can state your opinion as to what constitutes adequate authentication, but I suggest you tone it down when it comes to calling out respected members as liars and frauds before you've established your own credentials of credibility.

As usual, Wax gets it right. I have done business with Chris at VTC, and I can vouch for his credibility. And, he's a super-nice guy too.

Lots of side tracking going on, but let's get back to the OP. A fascinating post very early this morning in the Texas section that speaks to the total obliviousness of the OP. In the miata repair help thread.

I collect watches. It is my hobby.

Honest sellers can flip fake watches without knowing.

I'll give an example of a scam. A scammer buys as many real Rolex parts as possible from broken Rolex watches or from the inventory of a watchmaker who has a Rolex account.

They buy dials, they buy bezels. They buy cheap.

They look for people who are replacing parts on authentic Rolex using third party watchmakers. The scammer buys the used authentic Rolex dial.

$300 replicas are very close in apperance to real Rolex that some Rolex owners can't tell.

Take that $300 replica and swap in a real authentic Rolex dial. Now you have a slightly more expensive Replica with a real Rolex dial that is less than $500 total cost. Used steel subs start around $5000.

Even a knowledgable watch collector would be fooled by visual inspection because the dial is authentic Rolex. The watch is fake.

This is why many tests are required to prove a Rolex authentic. Opening the watch and looking at the movement is only one test. Most fakes are best at imitation of case, bezel, and not imitation of movement. Luminance is a second test. Rolex markers have different luminance than fakes. But if there is a real dial on a fake watch this test is useless. This is why all tests need to be performed and skipping any step can be very costly.

As a buyer I would not risk a $10,000 purchase if someone gives an indication they skip tests and use visual inspection to authenticate.

VTChris may be an honest person and it appears he is in good standing in this community. But if he does not do his due diligence when buying watches to flip then he could easily pass a replica as real.

The buyer will find out the watch is fake when they service the watch. Rolex will refuse service.

Perhaps VTChris and 25 years experience makes him believe he can spot fakes by visual inspection. I believe he is good enough to spot bad fakes.

Maybe VTChrist will say he was joking when he posted buddies authenticate his Rolex watches by stopping at his house.

    I added the emphasis:

Gee, you're a security guard, you wake your boss up at 2am... Tell him you left your duty post and then were unable to return... And then you believe there is "No problem"

Question for Yin (and other mods)...

While it would be much simpler if TMR2 decided to answer here.... If he still refuses to post a valid explanation here after starting what could easily be interpreted as a sympathy thread due to the timing of it (the AA Thread), all things considered, what would be your stance on his membership then?

I don't think we would require a "valid" explanation as a condition of continued membership. Even Grim Reaper and OceanSky were never banned. The theory is that we don't want to be accused of enabling damage to someone's reputation and then also taken away their ability to defend or clear themselves. However, the pertinent threads would remain, whether in an open or closed state, and they can be referenced whenever appropriate. This does not include harassment or cyberstalking though, so the references have to be pertinent.

Right, so the next question has to be what about the other thread? If he doesn't post here than that one becomes even more of a FU to all of us who would offer encouragement as good people.

Sucks to be taken advantage of....

Well, at least so far, I thought you brought it up appropriately in that thread. It also seems that thread may explain this thread, which may be the OP's intent. However, I wouldn't automatically assume that the implied causal relationship is genuine, it may be manipulative, which his further postings may make more apparent.

Chris doesn't need to check back in here. His reputation is superb and although he is not a Rolex dealer, I would not hesitate to buy a Rolex from him. With this reply you're essentially making further insinuations about his character, even after another Mod tried to set you straight. Consider this a firm warning that any future incidents like this will result in a vacation from Ferrarichat.

I suggest you read our rules. Below is the link to the rules. Also I am posting two you need to consider in detail.

    FerrariChat.com Rules

1.2 No "Trolling": Please do not post any topic that disrupts the peace and harmony of this community. Don't create meaningless threads with the sole purpose of starting a dispute. This includes messages in profiles and signatures.

1.4 No "Offensive" Posts, Links or Images: Please do not post any messages that are obscene, gorish, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, racist, sexist, discriminatory, or otherwise in violation of any applicable laws. This includes links in your signature, profile, bookmarks as well as posted images, photos and avatars. No circumventing the censor system. Moderators will ultimately decide if something is appropriate or not.

I am very even tempered and have never been put off by threads or posters until I started reading your comments. In fact, I find your entire tone and demand for OP's head throughout this thread unnecessarily off putting and non productive.

I assure you, there are far more experienced watch collectors and aficionados than you on this board. Chris is among them. He has extensive contacts and experience in the watch trade. Additionally, as established, his reputation is stellar.

A qualified Rolex watchsmith can probably authenticate a watch in a few minutes with their carry tool case. It is not magic. Yes, the fakes are good. Yes, you can open the case and reseal it without pressure testing it. In fact, most watches that are open (Rolex included) are not re-pressure tested every time they are opened. One can argue whether they should be, but the reality is they are not.

I will weigh the opinions of those who have been here for years, and I have done business with, quite heavily vs a newbie.

I am also willing for this post to be my first vacation in my 6+ years on FChat and 5 years prior on Ferrarilist.

This post sucks. Completely ignorant. I am bewildered how you can go on and on about a vague 8 word post. Chris is much more of an expert than you are. You could have easily searched for threads and posts by him before insulting the man. I am also a watch collector and I have and do trust his judgment implicitly.

Which part of RifleMan's post is the problem? Everything he has said seems OK to me (ie the scam description and the fact that exterior examinations cannot yield absolute authentication.)

He is not slandering VTC, he's simply stating possible flaws in the supposed authentication procedure.

In fact, I hadn't even considered the scam he mentioned, I learned from his post.

Read his earlier posts in this thread, where he attacks VTChris for mentioning that he can "have a friend drop by his house and authenticate a Rolex". Based on his assumptions about that statement, he has made quite direct attacks on VTChris's reputation and credibility.

Totally unwarranted attacks IMHO, because he never bothered to question whether his own assumptions might not be correct.

VTChris pays to advertise here. That means he could sell fake watches and mods will protect him.

Anyone who questions how VTChris authenticates watches is warned that talk is a personal attack.

Does Ferrarichat gaurentee the watches VTChris sells to be authentic?

VTChris says he doesn not open watches to verify movement, nor does he do proper luminance tests.

I will be banned for questioning VTChris not opening a Rolex to authenticate. Yet the man who started this thread trying to sell a fake $70,000 watch will be allowed to continue his scams.

GatorFL, I may know him. If this is who I know, GatorFL tried to sell a Rolex as "like new" and it was not like new. It was full of problems. When a thread questioning why the watch was broken, GatorFL tucked his tail between his legs and never replied.

Ferrari owners, you are in a pit of vipers selling to you. Maybe these scammers think you are dumb and will not question a $10,000 purchase the way a others won't question a $1,000 TAG. If I purchased from VTChris or GatorFL in the past I would run to a Rolex Authorized Dealer and pay the ten bucks to have the watch opened and authenticated.

BTW, the person who said a watch can be opened and closed without pressure testing is going to ruin watches. If the watch is not pressure tested water can enter and destroy the movement. I can understand the motive for this advice if a scammer wanted more broken rolexes to buy parts from.

Ban me, I don't care. It is obvious the moderators are protecting scammers. Scumbag scammers.

The mods don't care if VTChris sponsors here or not. None of us take any money from the site, we're all volunteers. Also the mods have banned or rejected sponsors who have turned out to be scammers before. Again you make wild accusations without researching the site.

[Moderators do not protect Sponsors. FerrariChat does not look for Sponsors. Sponsors come to FerrariChat. Sponsors know full well they are are held to a higher Standard than any other Member. They have to put up, or shut up. Enjoy your quiet time.]

I'm not a moderator of this section. However, DuaneFL was quite clear such bilious accusations would not be tolerated.

I implemented the ban as a neutral party, not letting present or former Sponsorship or moderator "perception" from Members, be they Subscribed, Unsubscribed, Sponsors, Haterz or "local" moderators even perceptibly cloud judgment. The ban may be shortened, lengthened, removed or permanent by moderators of this section.
