Here's your answer, This is what Tony did/said in an outlaw race this weekend. Tony saw some one coming, and ran down into him at the bottom of the track, and wrecked him... Tony really hasn't given himself much leg to stand on with what he said after the Cup race. So yup, I agree, Tony does this waaaaay more than Joey, and has caused some pretty major wrecks doing it. I already mentioned 'Dega last fall.
Joey was in the right(or wrong) place to get a fast track into a cup ride. Tony exited the #20JGR to form an extra wing of Hendrick motorsports. This left an opening in his old drive, most of the time this happens, a seasoned cup driver from a lower tier cup team is hired for the job. Instead, JGR put in their hot shot rookie nationwide driver. Tony raced for years and years before he got that #20 ride, Joey did one season in nationwide(excluding K&N). It was JGR's decision to promote a driver from within their ranks, rather than grab a driver who had put in his years in a lower cup team. This is the difference with Truex, who spent six years from when he started in trucks, to when he ended up with a full season cup ride. I was racing against Joey in amateur racing he was doing Monday nights, kid was signed for a nation wide car, then ended up in championship caliber cup ride a year later. To start in one of the three speed way nascar series, and be signed in a cup car less than a year later, doesn't normally happen. This is what Tony is pissed about. Tony believes you need to run around for a few years bouncing around bottom teams, and slowly work your way up. Joey was signed into a cup car less than a year from his NW start. Unfortunately, the #20 team started to fall apart during that rookie season, and never picked up the pieces. Unfortunately, the next year, there were a mess of engine problems for JGR, and it further wrecked havock on team morale. On the NW side, Joey can beat the cup guys, but the cup team kept having issues. Joey didn't cut it tight in the pits to gain time, so even in races where the equipment held up, he'd lose it in the pits(not the crews fault), and then have to gain positions back on the track. It didn't make the crew look good, even though a careful observer would see it wasn't their fault, so that made some bad blood. Brad K. doesn't have the speed on the track, but he's got race craft and except for the season final when he slid too far forwards twice, is VERY good at pulling the most out of the pit-stops for his crew. This makes them look good - and builds morale.
L1 vertebrae compression fracture for Hamlin as to the above post, lots of kids get signed young and fast tracked, it's not unusual. and Logano has been in cup for 4 or 5 years and not made an ass of himself (for the most part). so I still don't get Tony's outage.
Yup - I don't get it either, Tony is being a hypocrite as he's done way worse blocks. I'm really not sure how many drivers have fast tracked into a top cup ride as fast as Logano. 1 rookie season of NW, and boom, in a championship winning car. I don't see a problem with it, but evidently, Tony resents it. And +1 to the for Hamlin. He'd of walked away from it if he'd of had a slightly cooler head. That finish reminded me of some skirmishes Edwards and Logano have had, Logano also ended up in the wall, and later came over to Edwards and told him it was just some hard racing.
Tony has always been sort of a hot head. I'd say his outburst stems from the stress of team ownership and the fact his team is way behind in figuring out the new car. Stewart-Haas racing has had a very poor start to the 2013 season and with the competition so close it is really hard to dig yourself out of a hole. Money lost and money spent has got to be stressful for any team owner. It was very hypocritical of him as he's done some blocking himself like the last Dega race and I believe he was the one that ran Regan Smith below the yellow in another Dega race to get Smith the BF and the win taken away. He really owes Logano an apology and should do it as soon as his head clears before the press drives him over the edge
that's why he's so popular but usually his hot headed-ness is well placed (usually with idiot reporters and their stupid questions).
DW has an article out that basically says that joey was not to be faulted for either incident first with tony and second w/ denny. he actually praised joey for his racing and said it was his best race of his career. he also admonished joey for his comments and then went on to say that joey probably had not known of the seriousness of denny's crash. according to DW, stewart was the only one who had shown badly and joey and denny were just racing hard!

Ugh. Given how spread out the top 20 in points can be, if wins a few races later this season, he could still sneak in on a wild card. Mark Martin if he hadn't of had contact on two occasions and won those races, would of done it from a partial schedule last year. If only Denny could of kept from getting into Joey's right rear after the initial contact, then he'd probably be ok. Anyone have any on board footage from the #11 with in car audio? I've heard Joey's car, you hear him get on throttle, he gets a hair loose, and is off throttle when they made first contact, stays off throttle to try to get down off Denny, gets back on throttle, and that is when he got tagged again by Denny(who may not have had much control over it at that point). I honestly think 6 weeks may stretch into a longer period. I've hurt my back karting before, it doesn't go away. With the medical and nutritional help he'll be getting, maybe it is possible. I had a bad feeling when I read Denny's comment about "not seeing him around". A comment like that catches up with you for some reason. I really hope this injury doesn't haunt him, and he can get back to racing.
Good grief, NASCAR has a euro series and they race at F1 tracks, why haven't I heard of this?!!! Awesome. EURO-RACECAR NASCAR Touring Series Spa Francorchamps 2012 - YouTube They need to ship the cup series over there for a race! The huge draft from the speed on the straight after Ea Rouge would be incredible, you'd almost always have cars trying to pass each other there every lap. Lets drop a restrictor plate race at 'Dega off the calender for this! Also, make the second Daytona race use the infield track. Four plate races is too many. I'm not a fan of the 'plate races, its mostly parade laps until the last 15-20. Most teams "write off" the cars they bring to 'dega anyway, expecting them to be crashed, so if you sent a set of cars to Spa, and didn't bring them back, it wouldn't cost that much more in cars.
Real good racing today. A dominant car took some of the excitement but lots of action going on all day behind him. As for Danica, she drove a solid race and showed she could not only race with them, she wasn't afraid to mix it up with them either. How she held her position on the last lap for a great finish was very impressive. DW said that Martinsville is probably the most technical track on the tour. For Danica to do what she did today having never been to that track it should go a long way in opening the eyes of her non believers
what happened? i just watched up until she had been lapped 2 times and was getting ready to go down a third. what happened and how did she finish so high after being lapped so much?? she was over a half a second a lap lower than the fast guys....there must be something i missed like half of the field crashing out??
She started last because of an engine change. Just a few laps into the race she got tagged by another car ( wasn't her fault ) and spun losing a lap before she could get going again. Then she lost another lap which is easy to do when you keep starting in the rear. Over time she was able to make it on the lead lap by using the " wave around " rule where a driver can get a lap back but not pit during a caution. One caution there were 11 drivers that elected to take the wave around. Danica was one of them. Once she was on the lead lap she was in a much better position having many cars behind her and was able to keep from getting lapped again. She got back on the lead lap around 20th position or so and then drove her way to a 12th place finish. Kurt Bush went up in flames and that gave her one position and during that caution a couple cars in front of her pitted for tires while she stayed out for the last 8 laps on old tires. On the restart she held her position at 11th and the guys that took tires couldn't catch her. On the last turn of the last lap Vickers hit her in the rear sending her wide in the turn but she kept control and almost got the spot back from Vickers at the line. She finished 12th. I'm guessing that at the finish of the race there were about 38 cars still on the track. She is currently 26th in points.
it seems 22 finished on the lead lap. the balance of those running were between 2 and 150 laps down. it seems she kept her nose clean and drove a race of attrition. this is her only way to finish well as w/ the exception of the plate races, she has shown she does not have the speed to run with the fast guys...as has been seen in qually and race laps. at least two lucky dogs helped her. it was also said that kenny spun her in the early laps. i saw that and kenny had position and danica tried to dive in and pass where there was no opportunity. she was at fault there and not kenny...just an observation. otherwise a respectable run for her after having qualified 32 and then going to the back for a motor swap.
Martin finishes top 10 in No. 11 Rough, Denny would be in the car if he didn't know he'd be doing permanent damage to himself. Kinda reminds me of Grand Prix with the two teammates getting into each other. Good to see Martin finally pick it up and get into a better finishing spot. Denny ran an odd line at Martinsville last season, each time something sent him to the back and I saw him pass Brad K. on my onboard you could notice it was vastly different. I'm not going to be particularly happy to see Vickers in the #11. Can't put it into words, but he just rubs me the wrong way. He's also a heavy contact driver with a low flash point.
You are a bit confused so let me straighten you out First of all you said this..... " it seems 22 finished on the lead lap. the balance of those running were between 2 and 150 laps down. " Only 43 cars start the race so if 22 finish on the lead lap that is over half the field so the balance of those running finished on the lead lap NOT 2 or 150 laps down. Then you say this..... " it seems she kept her nose clean and drove a race of attrition. this is her only way to finish well as w/ the exception of the plate races " Martinsville is a race of attrition. Attrition is part of racing. A driver has to take care of their equipment. If a driver abuses their tires and brakes and pokes a hole in their radiator it's their fault and it costs them positions to those drivers that raced better. It's racing 101 really so to downplay a driver's finish because others were not as skilled is weak. Then this.... " she has shown she does not have the speed to run with the fast guys...as has been seen in qually and race laps. " I don't know her lap times but the commentators remarked that at times she was keeping pace with the cars up front. This was her first time at that track, one of thee hardest to drive and she drove a solid race passing many cars which is very hard to do at that track. As for the Schrader spin I'll just post the video so others can make their own judgement. The view is clear. I say at the 0:31 mark Danica CLEARLY has position. At that moment the spotter should be telling Schrader " inside " at which time Schrader has to decide to give the position or pinch her down and hope for the best. Danica had the position and the risk was on Schrader's shoulders. With him on the outside he could've easily found his day come to an end against the wall. He pinched her down and Danica did an excellent job of saving her car so she could go on to finish 12th. Schrader went on to finish 32nd [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv-4PSok1nQ]Danica Patrick spins out at Martinsville!! - YouTube[/ame]
22 finished on the lead lap 16 other drivers were actually running at the end. joey ran 499 and martin ran 385. was i terribly confused in my statement of those still driving around and not on the lead lap? and by the way, i know nascar and the goings just a bit. i even know some one who knows some one...
and danica DID NOT have position. her wheel was not even at kenny's door. you are wrong about danica having position. she was not even colse in race terms to showing kenny a wheel period.
This might be fun to watch From Jaski...... NASCAR announces Eldora race format: NASCAR announced today the qualifying and race procedures for the inaugural "Mudsummer Classic" the highly anticipated Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday, July 24. Unlike asphalt tracks, dirt tracks have historically used a format much different than typical races and that will be the case for this event, the first NASCAR national series race held on dirt in more than 40 years. The race will feature a traditional two-lap qualifying session, five qualifying races, one last-chance race and a champion's provisional to determine the 30-truck starting field. The top-20 in owners' points entering the race event will have a guaranteed starting position. Here are additional details for each round of qualifying: Two-lap qualifying determines starting position for the qualifying races. Qualifying Races: Five qualifying races; Eight laps each; only green flag laps count; Five trucks transfer from each qualifying race; Lineup for the qualifying races will be based on qualifying speeds with four locked-in trucks (trucks in the top 20); The top-five trucks in qualifying will start on the pole for their respective qualifying race; Highest finishing non-locked-in truck will transfer to race from each qualifying race; At the completion of the qualifying races, 25 trucks will have earned spots into the feature. Last Chance Race: 15 laps; only green flag laps count; The top-four finishers will transfer to the feature and start in positions 26-29; The lineup will be based on the finish from the qualifying races. Starting position No. 30 will go to the most recent past series' champion who has not already qualified. If the 30th starting position is not filled by an eligible champion, it will be assigned to the next highest finishing truck in the Last Chance Race. The race length and format are also new for the series. The race will be 150 laps divided into three segments. The segments will be 60, 50 and 40 laps. There will be pit stops between each segment, with teams having the opportunity to change tires and work on their trucks. More details on the event schedule will be released later this spring. The "Mudsummer Classic" will be the first NASCAR national touring series event held on dirt since NASCAR's premiere series competed on September 30, 1970 in Raleigh, N.C. Richard Petty won the Home State 200 at the one-mile State Fairgrounds Speedway.
If you ever go to large field short track racing, you'll find similar stuff, so it all made sense to me. (I had originally said large short track racing, then realize I needed to add a separate noun for large to modify, lol.) The final is split into segments primarily because the pits are not designed for "hot" pit stops like regular NASCAR tracks. The only difference from some of the short track formats I've seen, is the qualifying on time. The heats are often determined by draw for both who is in it, and where they are starting.
I know, but most NASCAR fans won't be familiar with heat race formats I can't wait to hear the bozos on sportscenter try to explain it and it sounds like the segments are designed in part to eliminate the need for hot pit stops.
Danica Patrick goes cowboy with special buckle from Stenhouse - NASCAR News | FOX Sports on MSN seems it was news worthy that she was gifted a new belt buckle!! very swanky but it also seems its sheer size has compromised her aero package thus the 42nd qually position. 42nd out of 43 is not really a stunning qually showing but i'm sure the danica apologists on f-chat will find a silver lining serve it up guys!
