I am speccing my car and want the Carbon dash, steering wheel etc and really to tie in I should also order possibly the bridge (although that does match the door pulls), but certainly the cup holder which has the standard finish of the dark grey plastic. Ideally therefore to prevent a third finish, Carbon, aluminium, Dark plastic, the cup holder should be carbon. However, $4,000!!! Prize for the most insanely priced option.

Anyone know if Macarbon or similar might be offering an after market fit?

    Does this $4000 cupholder come w a happy ending ? :)

Def need a picture of this LOL

I bet the cupholder in the Space Shuttle costs less than that

    I think I'll buy a carbon cupholder for a bicycle & install that in the F40 :)

Is there ANY cup holder at all, or do you need to order the CF one to have one at all? The design of the (non-CF) cup holder on the California works reasonably well and didn't cost extra.

There is another alternative option that will cost you less money. It's only $3 grand

    OWTM

    which stands for

    Open Window Toss Money :)

So, you can either toss three grand out your window or you can order the briefcase -- at $3,051

For that kind of money, I can get you a C-5 Galaxy soup and coffer maker. Not sure about the CF finish, though.

It is included 'free' in the dark grey plastic so you probably just have to live with it.

Expensive yes ... excessive maybe not ... Lets face it, not knowing the base price for the F12, the FF base is $300K (too many zeros to bother with:)) and you can buy about ten regular cars for the same price, without accessories. So, want a CF cup holder, shut the heck up and buy it:) ... or buy a Prius. I pay much more than that just to get the car flown over so I get it a month quicker.

Tim, I don't mean to appear contrary but I'm wondering if carbon fibre is really the most complementary material or the best look for the F12 interior. While you as the owner, can design your own purpose for your cars the F12 is also designed by Ferrari as a GT, whereas the 458 is targeted at a very different lifestyle.

If you look at 599 GTB and 612 Scaglietti interiors, they tend to feature lots of warm, soft leathery tones which really exemplifies the GT lifestyle... normally shared with a favourite person on longer, comfortable trips. Carbon fibre is more a street racer, bad boy image - very cold, opposite of a GT. CF may be light and rigid in structural applications but it has no functional value at all on accessories. I actually don't like the appearance CF, but I do like its structural qualities, except when it is exposed to surface wear, not good for any high tensile, woven material.

For a coffee cup holder, my preference would be aluminium... and aluminium for all the rest of the interior surfaces aside from leather.

An interesting thought and one I have been considering because of the outrageous cup holder price. I do agree with you, but I had CF in my Cali and in my Spider and love it for the quality looks it provides rather than the bland dark grey aluminium. But then it would solve the problem and the cost saving would pay for other peccadillos. On the car.

I am also aware of Ricks point of view. Buy it once and get it as you really want it.

How incredibly lucky to have this sort of dilemma.

frightful dilemma... hmm, get the full luggage set instead (warm leathery tone)? Silly but less outrageous :D

I had to laugh when I saw this thread.... I've spent the last two days dealing with the Mercedes forums over grousing about what we charge for a red carbon start button! (A sub $200 part). So a $4K cupholder puts that in a bit of perspective. And now that I think of it, just as another example, Mercedes charges $850 for the ashtray unit in metal and $1600 in CF on the SLS. And those numbers suprised me.

Anyway.... where is the cupholder? I sat in a F12 at the dealer a few weeks ago before the launch party and don't remember seeing it. Eurospares doesn't have the parts diagrams up yet. We'd be happy to take a look if you can point it out.

We're also looking at the F12 to see what there is to do. If you have additional suggestions, let us know.

Towards the rear of the centre console. I wish you could just delete as an option but you cannot.

"My Ferrari cup holder costs $4000! Outrageous!"

I totally agree with what Michael said. I am paying a US$2k premium to replace the CF with leather and aluminium from the LED steering wheel option so as to keep the cabin CF free.

We Canadians must stick together. :)

That cup holder looks reasonable at that price when you look at $9900 for aluminum footrest and pedals in new 911 GT3.

I think this may be the way to go on this car, not on a 458. Same way I don't think the racing seats fit with the style of the car as more of a Daytona feel, maybe carbon is not sch an issue. For me I am now thinking I will possibly keep the carbon LED wheel and driving zone but leave the rest as ally and save a bundle. Thanks for the input.

I thought one of the Ferrari execs said a few years ago that there would never be cup holders in Ferrari's.

Seems to me too much CF detracts from the specialness of the material. Slathered all over kind of takes away from the value of it. Reminds me of when American cars put chrome everywhere they could think of. The word "gauche" comes to mind.

    Rant over.
