I have a 2000 550 with the black paint on the front air dam, rear facia and rockers. I am curious if this was an option as I have seen some 550s with all red paint.

As far as I am aware, the black paint was standard (from the factory) on all 550's and the all red paint would be someone that had those pieces painted to match the car......it makes the car look lower to the ground with one color....but I prefer the stock color scheme.

I think the 575 Superamericas comes from the factory with one solid body color.

Any painting of these items is not original.

    Wha....?

Have never seen a standard US delivery 550 Maranello without black painted front spoilers; lower section of rockers are black; and lower rear bumper/spoilers are black. Straight from Italy.
More likely any car without the black has been customized or was special-ordered.

James- That is what Onno said. If they are painted body color, they are not original. Unless it is a Superamerica.

Barry- An HGTC in Rosso Corsa and Beige. Bet they had a hard time selling that one. Not a whole lot of black paint, eh?

Barry- That is a really pretty 308 GTB. Forgot you had one, especially a fiberglass model. Does she have a dry sump or was that Europe only?

Terry, it's a North American version wet sump. The AUS version was also wet sump. Euros were dry sump.

It's hard for me to keep those things straight about the 308 series too, Terry.

Thanks, S/N 19399 was the second of the 100 North American version fiberglass GTBs and was in the group of four that were first shipped to the United States. It's unrestored and in pretty nice shape for its age. Mechanically, it's perfect having always been serviced by Algar and for the last eleven years, Classic Coach. Along the way I replaced the shocks and suspension bushings, rebuilt the steering rack and clutch, and recored the radiator. I know how this car drove when it left Algar's showroom in 1976.

The original thermal reactor muffler resides in my garage.

    Barry
