After the Enzo WRC, the F50s tug of war [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PQ4VGMDMQU]Ferrari F50 Showdown - YouTube[/ame]
that's awesome! wait until the guys that get upset if a guy revs his Ferrari to many times, get a load of that!
Shouldn't be too difficult to figure which car the yellow one is, there were only 31 Giallo F50s, and not all had black headlight buckets, and even fewer are in the UK. For example, car 209 was recently sold in the UK 8,762 miles. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some left the factory with yellow headlights? I know 360C's old F50 had yellow headlights, but he had to open them up and paint it that way iirc.
I could be wrong, but Paul Frame's F50 had the yellow buckets as well. He drove that one everyone apparently. Unfortunately I never saw it, except for what I assumed was his in the FoH garage on a lift.
His had black lights. I was under the impression that all left the factory with black lights and that some owners repainted theirs.
I can't see the desire for any owner to crack open their headlamps and paint them black. Far more logic in the idea of having them painted to match the car as it clearly looks better that way. My period photos of non-red F50s includes far more examples of cars with black headlamp housings than body-colored ones. Also, I recall 360C did the research prior to painting the ones for his car and he found they were available from Ferrari in either Red or Black. If memory serves me correctly he bought a spare set of the black ones and had those painted. Paul Frame took delivery of his F50 at a special event held at Texas World Speedway and when the cover came off the headlamps were indeed black: Ferrari North America >8^) ER
This DK Engineering ad for the 205th F50, also painted in Giallo - #106535 - says that customers could specify the black headlamp surrounds. I still think they were mandatory on non-red cars. Blue Chip and Competition Cars - Ferrari F50 Would be interesting to hear from an original owner of a silver of yellow F50 to find out if they were given the option as DK suggests. While not an original owner, here's one of the old posts from 360C which seems pretty definitive: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/135392663-post6.html >8^) ER
I will ask Pete if he painted his. http://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/75615_10152182660480284_1851126214_n.jpg
Saw this at Celebration today. Did F50's all come with both a hard top and rag top? Was it an option? I've only seen 2 prior to this one and they both had a hard top. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's the temporary roof - it comes folded up in a bag that it stored behind the seats. It is meant to be fitted when you have the barchetta panel and roll hoops installed, in case you encounter bad weather or want to keep the interior slightly more secure. All F50s included a solid roof as well that can be installed in place of the barchetta panel and roll hoops. It isn't a quick change - it takes some tools and at least two people. >8^) ER
Here's an old post with shots of the instructions for fitting the temporary roof: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/137501620-post24.html Posts #12 and #14 in that thread are also informative. >8^) ER
I went through all my pictures of F50's (over 200) and this is what i came up with; Red: Red headlights Yellow: Almost always black Black: Black headlights Silver: Mostly silver headlights; a few rare ones with black headlights I can't shed light onto originality or not; but just from my observations.
