that's sucks! I too had many lost a while ago! a few pics from 'vector W12' thread Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is a Vector in a Quebec collection (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/141390015-post87.html) I have a 1:18 but also a rare 1:43 DeProvence resin Image Unavailable, Please Login
interesting to see, looks a little rough? I have yet to find that a 1/24 scale has been made by anyone?
The Quebec car is actually the brinze prototype repainted black. It sold on ebay a couple fo years ago for $50k. The 1/43 scale model is built from a kit made by Provence Moulage in the late 80´s.
have already looked beyond just this thread, is why I said I've not found (online) any in that scale by anyone
found it http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/california-nevada-southern/125003-crystal-cove-photos-10-14-06-last-time.html
Do not know if these brochures are posted on this thread, still enjoy. 1991 W8 Hot Cars 1992 W8 Twin Turbo Auto Brochures
I must thank Jurgen for his help in getting me in touch with Jerry! Seeing the WX-3 prototypes and his shop was an amazing experience for sure! I will be posting some footage, but I am thinking about doing some dialogue to tell a bit of a story. I don't have a huge wealth of knowledge on the WX-3 prototypes, so I would appreciate help from you guys. What can you all tell me about these cars? Powerplant, power output, anything else that is interesting about the cars. I know it has a twin turbo V8, and the M12 was based on these cars. The bodies are aluminum, carbon fiber, and kevlar; is that correct? Thank you for in advance! Chris
Nice! Did you take any pics? The M12 was based (inspired) on these in looks only. I have a brochure/info pack for the Avtech that I could dig out. These cars have W8 engines in them, but Vector had a dohc 7.0L engine designed & built. Body construction is the same materials as W8 I believe. Radiators were relocated also. The longer body was for better aerodynamics. I'll look through my stuff later...
I believe the WX-3 coupe put down more power than any of the W8s. They definitely spent some time tweaking it. I don't recall an exact number.
Some notable difference are the body shape, with improvements in aerodynamics & cooling, with all openings being functional. Body construction is still kevlar, carbon fiber & "S" glass. The Avtech uses a honeycomb core. It also uses nomex. The W8 body is "wet lay up" while the Avtech's carbon skin is cured in an autoclave. There is a claimed weight savings as well as additional strength. Interior passenger sill is "cut back" for more room & to accommodate the 3 across seating. The ideas for the interior are interesting, such as modular & removable pieces that can be reconfigured according to the owners mood. Additional trunk space front & rear. Wheels changed from 16" to 18". Sounds like suspension changes (fully independent) were in the works, but not implemented into the running car. The bearing supports for the DeDion tube were changed from steel to aluminum. The new engine would have been great...4 cam, 4 valves per cylinder. Confirmed 600 hp in naturally aspirated form, with capability of 700, or 1000+ with turbocharging. Rpm capability of 9000 rpm. Other changes are displacement, deck height, rings, pistons, etc. In development was the turbodyne system, to eliminate turbo lag. Also "currently exploring" possible 4 speed trans with electronic shifting mechanism. Hope that helps
There was a 7.0 Liter DOHC TT that was being developed, however, the same engine that powers the W8 is powering the WX3's. What I can't recall is if they have the rarer dual plenum intake, or not.
I recall that, some articles said it was already powering cars, but no doubt they were reprinting what they were being told, and turned out to not be the case ....cool engine though! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'll tell you the story of what happened when that 7.0 DOHC engine was first fired up. Pretty funny, actually
absolutely, i'd like to hear that! here's a pic of it in show car at Geneva, not sure if was a running car, but it's in there!? Image Unavailable, Please Login
here's a curious one ...possibly an early mock up of the SRV8 race version? Image Unavailable, Please Login
First time only one car was able to be sacrificed, while being able to perform every test needed. Most cars needed considerably more than one
I've got a video showing them installing this engine into the car. Also, in a magazine they mention the car coming back from Geneva & that it had been driven a few blocks. They were actually waiting to drive the car, but it needed a cam belt, which didn't arrive in time, so they got a ride in a W8 instead. Is the engine story the one where it blew off the intake manifold?
