Graeme, You are right with the relay activation. I am afraid that Jack is going to end up with a depression when we keep on adding variations to him Jack, normally the removed paint on the heads is a sign that the heads have been off and chemically cleaned. You know these head gaskets are like time bombs, there is a moment that they go! Enclosed some engine bay pics after I had my engine out. Ciao, Bart Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bart, It'll take more than the operation of K-lights to get me institutionalized. My cylinder heads were not chemically cleaned: The paint is all intact except in the valleys. Very odd that the paint around no. 1 cylinder is intact. Masking that lot will be a pain in the proverbial. Is crinkle-paint in a rattle-can any good? Never used it before. I have access to professional materials (a fully equipped paintshop) but if I can do it at home I'd prefer that. Your engine bay looks great: of course with the engine out it is a lot easier to do this job, but a little patience and small hands go a long way too. Looking at those carbs with the velocity-stacks on them makes me want to make a plexi-glass air-filter cover. It looks just so sexy like that! Expansion-tank question: Mine is all black, including the neck and nuts. You have unpainted nuts, Bal has more shiny stuff, what is original? Plotting along, Jack.
This is great stuff. The explanation on the switch makes more sense than mine as I couldn't understand what it was when I studied the wiring diagram in the handbook and though it a low pressure warning switch. Plus my eyes are going now so to follow those lines is not easy. Expansion tank; the one on my car was restored (Crinkle finish) when the engine was rebuilt. They guys followed what was already there and the neck handn't been painted, but the nuts are all new to match the originals hence why they look shiny. The lights took me a while to work out as the knob on the right hand lights stalk on my car twists round and had me fooled for a while. (it shouldn't and obviously is loose) Centre console switch should turn on the parking lights only. Lift headlights with right lights hand stalk at bottom position should bring on the parking lights and you should be able to flash the high beams by pulling the stalk towards you. Move stalk to 1st position should bring on low beams and you should be able to flash the high beams by pulling the stalk towards you. Move stalk to 2nd (top) position and high beams are on. Your car shouldn't be too different to the above unless things have been rigged due to issues with the switch as you describe. Hope it helps Jack Bal
Bal, 433 and 435 have identical specs (very late production RHD) and the workings of the lights should be the same. I'll try and check it tomorrow and see what gives. My expansion tank is all black crinkle, including the nuts and filler neck. Possibly a PO already re-finished it, although I doubt it. Easy to correct if I do the other black stuff. Thanks! Jack.
How do you remove the seat back from the seat base ? I need to remove the leather on the seats ? We removed some screws but seem to missing something to break them apart Cheers Mark
Hi Mark From memory the latter seats, the back is only held on by the two screws each side at the bottom of the tilt/recline mechanism that attach to the seat base. Then turn the back up side down and there is two screw holding the foward face section of the seat foam and frame in place. pull it foward at what is the foward base and the top is located by pins in the seat back up near the top. The very back section of the seat covering is glued to the frame. I hope that makes sence, Have Fun Graeme
Thanks Graeme Someone also suggested this ? Dismantling seats - help! - Alfa Romeo Bulletin Board & Forums We will try later today Cheers Mark

Hi Graeme, It is K#354. coincidentally i posted its original interior a few days ago: velours and leather combination. The original color was the rare brown maroon metallic. Engine bay shows some detail work whereby some parts have been replated. Wrinkle paint on the heads is missing. When i test drove the car in 2006 it was running relatively well, in need of tuning. Now the velours has been replaced by creme beige leather. Even the dash top which wlii create refections whilst driving in the sun. Ciao, Bart
I was out driving my first 458 today. I was mazed at how sensitive the steering was and that the smallest inputs made teh car dart from side to side. Wonder what car that reminds me of!!!! why have Ferrari not given credit to the K for that degree of movement and sensitivity? W After coming from my daily driver Passat W8 it was a bit of a shock like going back to the K for the first time in months. Other thing I liked about the 458 was how nice the ride was! Amazingly so. Anyway, just a bit OT but made me think of the K Paul xx
Hi Bart 140K are they serious I suppose it will be in the for sale sites for a year like the other three. Cheers Graeme
Hi Graeme, attached some pics of K#354 in its original shape in 2006 at that time owned by Peter Duerig. The car is photographed in Maserati Sport, Racing & GT cars page 263. The price is always a matter of demand and offer. At this time I consider the number of offered cars higher than demand. To me a car has to have a very high level of originality or of unique specifications and be in extremely good condition to touch the 6 digit prices. They are rare but they are around! Hi Bart Interesting about the supply and demand, I agree there are a few available as I mentioned for less, just amazing if the 100K price hasnt been realised why ask 40% more. But hey what do I know exotic's in Australia now sell new for twice what the rest of the world pays, Except Singapore and the UAE. Part of it is tax and then ask what ever the market will stand on top. Its business I suppose. Graeme
Two Khamsins for sale: ?? | ????? | ???????????????? Maserati Khamsin | Other | ????? | ???????????????? Maserati?Khamsin | Other | ????? | ???????????????? Translator: translate.google.de/?hl=en
Graeme, 100K Euro's and over have certainly been realized. The last I remember was the red car in Switzerland, which, IIRC, went for around 130K. Looking at the photos of that car, a few 'mistakes' are easily identified, but looks like a very nice car. Huni is a reputable and experienced dealer. The car he offers also has obvious mistakes, which, at that price-level, shouldn't be there. Also a great pity they changed the colour, the Marrone was really beautiful in my eyes. Dash-top will be a pain when driving it. Obvious under-bonnet mistakes. It's all too easy to judge a car you haven't seen in the flesh; other K's that occupy sales-floor space for quite some time may do so for a reason. Not defending or knocking anything, the market will speak. Best, Jack.
Greetings from Los Angeles. The two cars offered in Japan are AM120138 (blue) and AM120200 (red). Not sure about the transmission of 138 nut 200 is automatic like 21 of the 31 cars delivered in Japan. 354 at Lukas Hüni; bear in mind Mr Hüni is at the very top of the market in terms of both cars (the finest 1930's Pebble Beach winners etc) PLUS his clientele includes major Zurich bankers hence he works within a microcosm where prices are not the same as elsewhere: Zurich is a bit of a special case in terms of pricing and that has always been so. His asking price is therefore not a surprise. Speaking of other cars on the market there is however a noxious phenomenom right now which has to be pointed out. As most of you know for years prices were far too low and now the pendulum has clumsily inexorably swung all the way to the other extreme with many prices being over ambitious. The problem is that only time can get those who put excessive prices on their cars to become reasonable because egos get in the way....meanwhile there are buyers and sellers sitting in Mexican stand offs and that is unfortunate: summer is coming make an effort and enjoy DRIVING one this summer! The pendulum has to center itself. Yesterday I finally got to see one of my favorite K's, one of the "magnificent seven" painted fly yellow by the factory, AM120US1046 at the Riverside museum east of Los Angeles. Of the seven only this one and AM120US1272 (ex Spokane Washington now near Udine in Italy) are still fly yellow, not repainted resale red or silver. AM120US1230 the car and Driver cover car is apart in Berlin being restored but not sure what color the fairly new owner has settled on. 1046 is spectacular, ha Euro bumpers exhaust headers and ignitiion timing. Loved it! A fly yellow or light gold but with tan or cuoio/senape interior would definitely be my favorite. Photos of 1046 in the next post. I should be able to see my ex car in this area in a few days: like seeing a long ago girlfriend! best regards, Marc

Thanks for providing some clarity, Marc. I hope you are enjoying southern California and your date with your old girlfriend.
This being southern california it appears my ex needs a session with her shrink before accepting to sing again...but we will coaxe and seduce her into performing;-)
Hi all: Thanks Carmine yes I am, very much, feels great to be here! Graeme: the information on those two cars in Japan is in this recent post below. I have some contacts in Japan if anyone is interested but am not involved in any way with these cars/vendors. There was a case of a K coming from japan to the US in recent ears, AM120.194 which ended up at Symbolic in la Jolla California near san Diego, it later went to German via Chicago. It was a white automatic so not the most appealing one. best regards, Marc
Are cars that expensive in Japan? Wow. Hope I didn't add a zero doing the sums Is the metallic blue/grey car offered on that site a US-spec Khamsin? It does have side-markers, but I don't see any other things indicating same. Best, Jack.
Hi Jack Thats about 76 and 78 thousand US dollars, or 71 and 73 thousand AUD. That would buy a fair car if you can find one here in Aus. Shame they are LHD there are people in Austalia who would be interested Graeme
Graeme, You're right, I mis-calculated, in my haste took the slash before the 7 for a 1 and came up 170.000 USD! We're not quite there yet. Best, Jack.
