    I woke up this morning without really thinking I would ever own a 400i though it is a car that has always peaked my interest. I remember seeing a silver one at in front of the Louvre many years ago and loved the angular and elegant shape.

    So I came across an email late late night from the owner of a local shop selling a 80 400i Automatic, seeing that his shop is 5 minutes away I wandered over this morning and took a look at his car. It was as presented, in need of TLC very reasonably priced. Since, I have known the owner for many years and is well respected member of the community, we agreed on a price and I am now the new owner....adding to my many other projects!!

    This is an 80 400i Automatic Marrone Colorado, has tool set and pouch, good TRX tires, new exhaust, known service history and low mileage. The interior has suffered that wrath of the Texas heat and the dash and front seats are shot (car was put in storage for several months). Also the paint on the hood has cracked in places and there are a few other cometic issues. Shut lines are perfect, no obvious rust or leaks, doesn't overheat, shifts correctly, new exhaust, no funny noises... Enzo era V12 - hard to beat for the price.

    Now I have a list of things that I will have to tackle but looking forward to learning from the community - and giving back when I can!

    Welcome to the secret society of owners of dirt cheap 60-degree Ferrari V12s. I see you're already a long time member of Ferrari Chat so you may already know about Leatherique. If not, get some large bottles of the cleaner and the conditioner and anoint those seats and dash with the stuff. It will make a world of difference while you decide whether to reupholster or not. You might like your seats well enough after the Leatherique to keep the patina after all (and the $$$).

    Would always be interested in seeing what changes might have been made (or made and undone) to the injection system and the exhaust system for its US compliance (if it's ever convenient -- no rush).

    Thanks for the welcome, I have been fortunate to own several Ferraris and currently have a 360 CS which quite the opposite extreme of the 400i auto, but have missed my DD 456mgt, this might become a part time replacement, very understated car and perfect for dinner or weekend get away.

    Leatherique a great product which has worked wonders for me on many of my cars. Unfortunately, the dash and driver seat are beyond repaid so replacement is the only solution, but planning a full re-dye to make sure everything matches.

    Steve, you are welcomed to look at the set up, the car is stored at my office (running out of room at home), the TR CSI gave me a lot of grief but got a great education on how it works thanks to you and other experts...so should be able to tackle most issues!

    Beautiful machine! Congratulations! I'm right down the road and will soon be getting my interior redyed etc. Auto Seat Cover in San Antonio. Lupe did some nice work on an MB for me.

    I suppose you have been there and done this before but beware. Some rocket scientist in California re-dyed the seats in mine. I have no idea when this was done but do know it was many moons ago.

    Every time I drive the car in hot weather the back of my shirt turns red. I put red towels between me and the seat to defeat this issue but would just as soon I didn't have to think about it.
