While watching it snow today it is hard to call this global warming. True. That said I feel bad for the polar bears.
While I'm not trying to cause a fuss (well, actually I am), I couldn't resist passing this along: Former State Senator Quits Illinois, Moves to Texas | Publius Forum Dale
Don't you have a fertilizer plant explosion to clean up. Is this one of positive effects of a low profile hands off Texas state government?? Next time Texas has a tornado or Hurricane should we all post negative comments on the texass forums?? By the way, to the person who said it, moving south to get away from flooding and severe thunderstorms/tornados is not a smart thing to do as it is worse down south then here. Global warming seems to be true and the earth has been heating. It may end up being a long cycle as we don't have good records going back long enough to know. With the ice caps melting it is causing not just heat but cold, with more fluctuations. Severe weather in the last 10 years has gone up. Just look at Florida with it's 100 year Hurricane season a few years ago and the south having a 100 year tornado season last year. Stop complaining about the Chicago weather as we have less damage than most areas per capita. Let's talk about the real problem, Springfield Illinois instead. By the way, I did not have any flooding or hail or anything but I live on high ground. South and east of my area did have flooding by the rivers and streams.
Bring it on Bubba. You see, one thing about being a Texan is that it pays to have a thick skin. Of course, I can't call myself a native because I have only been here for 35 years. I keep thinking the welcome wagon is gonna call any day. Dale
14 people dead, numerous injured, nothing to be sarcastic about.... Tragedies like that could happen anywhere, regardless of local politics or weather.....
Have a map of the US, which was part of a study of where natural disasters occur across the US. It indicated the safest place to live in the US was AZ. It was affected the least by fires, earth quakes, tornatoes, flooding, etc. Interestng article. Sorry, it didn't take into account political situations. However, another article only ranked IL as the 14'th most corrupt state. Maybe we just get a lot more press time.
I agree it is tragic. It could happen anywhere but it happens in Texas alot more. Some of the things Texas does are great, but oversight is not one of them.
All that "oversight" in ILL is pushing more and more businesses OUT on the state, as well as repelling others from relocating here....
+1 and to add to that, the oversight is taking the direction that no one is capable of decisions or protecting themselves, so better just sit and wait. Many of us in big business have experienced "Sit And Wait" (SAP business software).
I agree 100% that Illinois needs to wake up. Only one suggestion to people relocating to Texas, don't buy within 20 miles of a petrochemical or fertilizer plant.
While I don't live within 20 miles of any kind of plant (not to my knowledge anyway), it would be nice if every now and then to get some kind of thanks from the rest of the country. Because if we didn't do what we do here in Texas, your cost of living would be a whole lot higher. I'm guessing, for example, that there are 1,000s of rigs off the Texas coast. I wonder how many oil wells there are off the California coast? Dale
Note to self... thank Texas.... hmmm, putting that in my google calander "to do " list with an alert even. ummmmmmmm, Thinking about that again, no. Going way off OT though with all this Texas banter in a Chicago forum though...
Tribune front page article about TX Gov coming to Chicago to grab/ convince businesses to move to TX.
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20130427/ISSUE01/304279981/economic-development-texas-style-what-illinois-can-learn There are several articles in Crains about TX The most telling are some of the comments.... Several feel that no one in their right mind would leave ILL. Sheep, being lead...
You'll turn blue holding your breath on this one, Andreas! If you REALLY believe that a bunch of Dems, who promised their core constituents these lavish benefits, are going to REDUCE them... then you, my friend, need to pass that doobie to me! Because dat is some good sheeeeit!!! Most of these elected nimrods were probably educated in public schools, probably in Chicago! Math just ain't their strong suit! love this plan: give workers who agree to lower cost-of-living adjustments to their pensions continued access to state-sponsored health care in retirement. (that will fix it! just move the hole to another column.... BINGO! problem solved! Its no longer a pension problem, but a health care problem...) or this: and a requirement that the state make pension payments according to an actuarial formula HA! ILL has not been making ANY contributions for years... the budget is too bad! Now they will allow it to "float", based on actual needs! Pass that doobie.... this "comment" says it all (from the article): What he is doing is against the IL Constitution. No matter what this ja-moke does, it will be overturned. Need more revenue? Stop giving 100's of millions of tax breaks to corporations. Keep your dirty mitts of our hard-earned pensions.
I transfered the title of my Porsche from my LLC to myself. That is $1500 in taxes. On top of that, when i decide to sell it, the amount will be taxable. So basically this car alone will bring close to $10k in direct taxes from one ownership. And they are still broke.
