    Workshop manuals for the 308gt4/328/348/512 I know have that spec for their lay shafts and main shafts. Since the diameter and type of nuts used for the F40 shafts are identical to those I've mentioned then I cannot imagine that particular torque spec would be any different either.

    Thanks again, makes sense to me. I am hoping I might be able to source some info from Michelottto who has rebuilt enough of these, but that might take as long as the next delivery.

    For those who are interested in the set of LM style OZ rims I promised to post a pic or two. Apologies for the quality but this gives you an idea, unmarked, and they should slot onto the standard hub.

    Is there any evidence that the additional torque multiplication might affect longevity?

    The toffee looks delicious.

    Turns out it is a very complex piece to machine but Crosthwaite and Gardiner are on the case and manufacturing from the get go and to a higher standard than the original Ferrari part. Could not find a reverse gear for sale anywhere, hardly surprising as I must have the only F40 gearbox with a duff one.

    Are you saying by over tightening you can negatively affect longevity? I assume the answer must be yes and governed by the strength of the stud. For example we are fitting stronger bespoke head studs so as to be able to torque the heads down more.

    The toffee was expensive!

    Did you try contacting Classiche Department in Italy?

    I visited few years ago, and the Director of Marketing for Classiche gave me a private tour and explained that their database have detailed information on every Ferrari. Not sure if they would be helpful without $$$, but wouldn't hurt to ask I supposed. He was a very nice gentleman. PM me if you want the contact.

    Why Italian rose joints? A rose joint is a rose joint ... get a local one, you will have to replace them periodically anyway so you want easily available ones.

    You are right but I want CM to provide as they are all part of his assembly and I don't want him turning round and saying 'Ahha, you shoulda hava used my special ones'.

    Thanks for all the interest and support. Strange, I never thought I would enjoy posting the journey as much as I do, I thought it would be quite trying but in fact the reverse. Very satisfying to share the ups and downs of this adventure with all enthusiasts here with varying levels of knowledge resulting in many useful thoughts and opinions, but all bonded by a common love of the Marque. Brilliant.

    Meanwhile, CM made a delivery! Yes, 8 weeks late but look what turned up, two sets of rear wishbones assemblies. I will post more once we have had the chance to unpack properly. Apparently the anti roll bars etc are due to leave Italy today and the brakes etc tomorrow. We shall see, but all being well, we might have all these vital components within a week or so and then we can really crack on, at least with the chassis etc.

    Sorry, but I now think I understand your question. By putting more pressure on the gearbox and diff, driveshafts etc, will that have a negative effect on longevity? The logical answer must be yes if abused. Regularly flooring it in first gear will definitely shorten the life of that gear, but this car is not a Saturday night special designed for traffic light events, it is primarily a race car and as such first gear gets used once on the track and it is the gearbox that is the weakest link when it comes to increased torque and one should be aware of it, at least in 1st and 2nd.

    Yes that is what I was asking (sorry I did not respond earlier). Given that you may also end up with more boost, I was wondering about drivetrain longevity.

    I am pretty sure that most current dual use cars these days are somewhat short geared to sacrifice a little top end in favor of greater torque at the wheel. E.g., the F12. As for first gear, I hardly ever use full throttle.

    The wishbones are gorgeous. They are worth waiting for.

    Surely it is being shorter geared, ie. less top speed thus that takes load OFF the gearbox. Not many club tracks where you can sit on or over 200mph.

    Well the good news is that as of today we now have all the secret setup info from Michelotto-caster,camber etc so we can go ahead and fit and apparently the brakes, pedal box, anti roll bars and uprights have left Italy and so should be with us next week. Final mounting, dry fit the bodywork, then it all comes off for chassis paint and then we rebuild for real. When we get to that stage, that will feel like a major milestone.

    Great work finding that info. That should save a good thousand hours of setup time!
