Over the weekend Kubica had another crash in a rally. Luckily the armco saved his life this time as it stopped his car from falling off a bridge. Which otherwise would have been the end.

He really needs a different hobby.

    No.

But he keeps talking about a return to F1. So maybe his head took a knock. ;)

He was not injured, so this should not affect his progress.

According to reports, the more time he has in the driver's seat, his reflexes are getting better and his range of motion is increasing.

    That's good to hear.

I still don't see him fighting for F1 championships though, as he might once have done. I suspect even getting back into an F1 drive at all would be a miracle, let alone taking podiums. I'd love to see it but those injuries were horrific.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Yeah. Report were that his hand was nearly severed. All of the fine movements in his fingers--which are controlled by tendons from muscles in his forearms--were affected. In Medical School, when we dissected the human hand, it was truly amazing. The typical person who is untrained in anatomy thinks that muscles in the fingers control the fine movements of the fingers. But, not true.

I agree with this, plus the longer he is away from F1 (even if he ever does regain sufficient use of his hand), the less likely it is he'll ever get a drive again. It's a terrible shame to see someone's career cut short like that, but that's racing. I happens. I believe he would have been an F1 champion, he had all the tools and big teams wanted him. Maybe we'll see him back in a non-driver F1 role some day or perhaps in prototypes...maybe sport cars in Le Mans. Whatever it is, I wish him the best.

I just can't see a F1 team offering him a car on the strength of some good drives several seasons ago when he was physically fit.

There are just too many graduates from GP2 knocking at the door of F1 every year; that's the reality.

Kubica, once a serious prospect, missed the boat. He should stick to rallying where he still manages to get good cars, as long as he doesn't drop of the road too often.

Whilst his range of motion is increasing, he still needs a lot of room to manipulate the controls of a car.

This is not a problem in a rally car but it's a major issue when it comes to the cramped cockpit of an F1 car.

He simply does not have the dexterity required in his hands to pilot an F1 car at a competitive level any more.

    Fingers crossed for the guy.

Driving a simulator is about one step up from saying: "I've been driving F1 cars on the Playstation3!".

Okay, I jest to a degree, but the harsh reality is, doing a few laps in a simulator is nothing like doing a full race distance in an F1 car on track with all the g forces, heat and vibrations that run through the car.

Don't get Me wrong, I wish the guy well but I'm not going to get too excited by this latest news.

    Just to add:
Is that because he can't cross them for himself? :p

(Oh! - he did not go there?! - Yes he did! - B:censored:d! )

Very little in form of G forces in a sim.

Besides: It would be interesting to see what times he achieved in the sim compared to other drivers. Is his tactile sensation back where it needs to be to drive an F1 on the edge?

Come on guys!..... Talk about negative!....

First, it was he'll never be able to hold a wheel again.

Then it was 'well, it's a rally car, he'll never be able to get in an F1 car.'

Then it was 'he'll never have the dexterity'.

Now its 'well, the simulator isn't a race car'. Sure, we know that, but he got in the thing and drove it. He's obviously working hard on his rehab and fitness to handle the 'g-forces, heat and vibrations'.... He destroyed an arm is 'all'. Shouldn't have any impact upon his ability to manage a car *if* he can hold the wheel and twiddle the buttons & knobs, which it sounds like he's doing.

Way too early to worry about times yet. I'm totally stoked that the 'he'll never drive again' brigade seem to be wrong.

    Cheers,
    Ian

It's interesting that he doesn't want to reveal any lap times. or That to me indicates that they probably weren't that competitive.

I also wonder how his arm would stand up to the vibrations generated over a race distance.

As I say, I'm still not getting My hopes up for an F1 come back for him.

Let's just say that we would love to see him back in F1 even if the odds are slim.

I think it's marvelous that he's trying and allowed to try.

We'll talk again once he has driven a real F1 competitively.

Granted there was Archie Scott Brown, but even he did only one GP.

    Cruel!

Damn funny, but still cruel! ;)

I truly hope so. Surely, you'd love to be proven wrong on this one?

Like everyone else, I too have serious doubts, but it's not being ruled out.

    Cheers,

He's making a good recovery and if he gets back in an F1 car in a competitive situation then more power to his elbow! (Oh no! -Not another one! :D ).

If it happens then I'll be one of the first to admit I got it wrong (along with Tifosi12 I'm sure), and wish him all the best, but at the moment I'm not getting My hopes up - driving in a simulator and driving a real F1 car on track are nowhere near the same thing.

And as I say, It's a bit odd that he's not prepared to reveal any information about lap times or duration in the car. If it was me and I'd set competitive times for a good long stint in the simulator then I'd be telling the World how well it went.

I suppose it could be that it went really well and he wants to surprise everyone with a sudden unexpected drive in a test somewhere! - As always, time will tell!
