I do not know why a seller would post photos of a different car (i.e., use a "stock photo") that is significant and costly as a Miura? More to the point, do any of the train spotters know of any Miuras living in Vermont? Joe, please feel free to chime in or pm me. TIA.
I don't I'm sorry. The picture I am looking it is from the UK magazine, Performance Car, December, 1986. Perhaps someone has it and can scan it? It is however a small b&w picture.
This looks like an it has been done to bring the car in compliance with US emmissions laws. It looks be some sort of positive crankcase ventation system. This was an emmissions requirement starting in the mid sixties in California and in 1967 for the rest of the US. Cheers Jim
Yes, I have seen several SVs with this application. I concur with Jim, but I cant say why this exists on these cars because they were not destined for the USA.
Jim, I can't amagine it has anything to do with the US emmission laws, my car never left Europe, same for Ferruccio's car. But indeed it looks like the crankcase ventilation is sucked out of the crankcase buy the carb's, the tube in the airfilterhousing has small holes at each carb intake. Also it looks like the modification at the chassis is done at the factory because its not possible to make these weldings when the chassis is ready. I see at Ferruccio's car they have used the wrinkle black spray at the tubes, same for my car so it looks like this is done by the same person/garage/factory(?)
Joe, do you have pictures from other SV's with this application? I never seen any other car with it, now on Ferruccio's car!
I found the magazine, "bull fighting" in Performance car dec 1986 but it is also stock. Image Unavailable, Please Login
a bottle of nice whisky for the guy who shows me another car with this system on! Jasper deserves a gallon!
No, 5028, the red car, has the hose from the crankcase ventilation not going to the chassis, 4830 in the magazine has it going to the chassis like any other SV.
Ah, yes, I see what you mean now. My apologies. I thought it was the white car that was non stock, whereas it's the orange car.
The Swiss were early adopters of many emissions regulations, any chance the car was originally delivered there? Did they have any regulations in place at that time that would require this modification? Cheers Jim
One of the better original cars I have seen (yours excepted of course!) pics taken by myself in 2005. 2 SVs might be better than one. For a while I had the ex-Shah of Iran's 4870 and the Last USA production 5064 at the same time. 4 other SVs have also come & gone without regret! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good questions. I find that often there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to why we see certain production anomalies. It could be these cars were originally intended for Switzerland or the USA, but got completed instead for an Italian customer after the engine was already installed... Who knows without the back-story?
This shot makes my heart pound. I was so in love with both of these cars. And don't care that some license was taken with the green one. I thought it was brilliant, and so did many other owners who chose a version of the green/blue. Very much regret letting one go.
John, I understand how you feel. But, the amount of TLC these require, plus the upside realized, their departure one-by-one was less than painful With the saying "Tis better to have loved & lost than never to have loved at all" in the back of my mind, and the realization that I get bored easily & need new challenges, I long ago accepted that I am a revolving collector and the only thing constant is a new chase. As with you, so many great Miura memories & stories will always remain - some involve roadside dilemmas! And when I get wistful, I pick up that book and look at a few pictures. Hope you are well.
Both cars never been in Swiss but as Joe says, perhaps they where build for Swiss, on the other hand all Swiss delivered cars i have seen didn't have this application, i just have no idea..
haha, well i don't know which one is best but i really love this yellow SV, i remember the first pictures when it was just found and not cleaned yet, that is the dream to find your classic car! The original reartyres had more thread than the ones on my car grrrrrrr
