I acquired a fighter jet ejector seat. How can you tell from what jet this is out of and it's value?

Rick I would imagine that many different aircraft use the same type of seat. I believe that the correct terminology would be EJECTION seat

I'll take some pics and try to find any form of a VIN number or other markings.

There will be a metal data plate riveted to it somewhere usually on the side or the back.

This is probably redundant and totally unnecessary, but without any knowledge of what you have please exercise some good old common sense and safety awareness...

They should have all been demilitarized before anybody had access to them. Note "should have" so caution is not a bad idea. We pulled them out of demilled F-100s at Cannon AFB in the 70s and made swivel chairs out of them. Helped on several, but never got one myself. No room.

If you get 6 of them, you could make one heck of a poker table out of them. :)

I found this pic on the web. These ejection seats came out of F-4 Phantoms.

    +1

I assume the ejection seat no longer has its explosive charge in it to power the ejection.

Imagine the nightmare that would happen in your living room if the explosive charge accidentally went off.

The ones in Ron's photo are old Martin-Bakers and the F-16C was using an ACES II seat after the Thunderbird solo had the incorrect field elevation set. He made it, the F-16C was rendered non-operational/beer can material.

No fatalities, correct? Even though that pic ocurred near a full parking lot. Plane was headed toward the tower, I think..

This thread has by far the coolest pics on all of Fchat...

Reminds me of an episode of Pawn Stars. Guy brought in an ejection seating saying it came from a P51 when it was clearly a modern(ish) one. Ended up being an F4. They turned down buying it even for $500. Apparently that company that privately owns and operates an F4 was trying to locate the guy to buy it for their bird given it looked brand new in the show.

Wish I could buy it. :( Ultimate desk chair.

Only fatalities were all the pee-pees that got whacked after such a basic foul-up in airmanship. There have been some amazing ejections in the last few years. The Russians got a pilot back that would have been dead with an ACES II. The latest M-B seats fitted to the F-35 are pretty amazing. They get better with each generation.

Ok all your experts, here is what the two plates had on them. Any help in identifing what jet this could have come out of and estimated worth of the seat would be appreciated.

    cool stuff!
What is that small 4-bladed prop for?

Have you been to Sam Taber's shop lately? I hear he just finished working on a Bearcat and a Wildcat and is progressing on the Corsair project.

Google search says your seat came out of a F-106 Delta Dart jet.

The short prop in my picture was a test club used to test engines on a stand so that you would not have to use a full size propeller.

I sold 3 or 4 F-106 seats in the last 2 years in similar condition but already mounted on stands so you could use them as seats. I think they sold in the $750.00 range so I would guess they are worth definitely more then that now.

My guess is $1,000.00. There are no new surplus seats to come out again. The government doesn't trust us.

Last time I was at Davis Monthan they were crushing everything no matter what and they even put bullet holes through every instrument before sending it to the scrapper.

Forgot to answer the other question.

I am supposed to deliver a P-51 to Sam's shop on Wednesday.

The Bearcat actually postponed my buddies annual spot a couple of weeks ago, I believe it is owned by John Oconnor a really nice guy.

The Mustang is Shangra La which is based across the runway from me.

Thanks guys for the information. Know any good sites besides EBay for selling such a seat?
