I have owned this 400AI for at least 8 years and this is my first on interstate drive. Missed what this car is all about. 300 miles today. 1/2 way through and a perfect trip. At 80 it drives like a dream. Went to 100 but concern about old tires made me rethink.

Be careful of old tires! Just curios, about how old are they?

Sounds like a great drive - Any tiny cracks on the sidewalls? Good tread remaining but I'm replacing mine for the same reason.

    +1800,why?
'Cos many years' ago a group of Cairns Volvo 1800/120 owners(me included,'62 P1800)went for a 400 mile return trip to Cardwell to meet up with a Townsville owner for a weekend.
On the way down the '66 blew 1 tyre(tire.....),rear luckily, and again on the return trip another one let go.Luckily no damage ensued and we,with the help of one of our collective spare's,were able to get him home.
He had restored the car to original daily-driver specs for his wife to use,the only thing he didn't replace were the tyres.Fairly cheap insurance,I'd have thought.

In fact when I received my 365,by transport, the great looking Michy's were full of longitudinal cracks.
My tyre shop said,A,they were out of date,by about 5 years and,B would probably have me in the ditch in a heartbeat.
What I didn't tell him was the day or so before,ie the day it arrived,I went on a 20mile,100+mph drive to see what it was like,as I hadn't driven it....ever.

It was bought from some photo's and a car mates' check out down in Sydney.

Glad to hear your still up and running. I actually had the 400 cabriolet that I bought from you out and driving yesterday as well. This was the 1st time since last fall and I always marvel at how great these cars are at speed.

I did replace the wheels and tires last year with inch size and new performance tires. I will say that the new tires make a world of difference for handing and braking. I agonoized over the original metircs or going "inch". I decided not to pay the Coker for their overpriced obsolete Mitchy's, for the same money I was able to repalce the wheels and tires. The plus side is the new tires are modern design and updated technology. The car steers quicker, and the overall handling has greatly improved.

Hope your health has improved to allow you to truly enjoy your collection of F cars,

    Regards,

tires look really perfect. they show no miles. 10 year old tires r really not my comfort zone. driving in the rain today was very interesting. from starting off the line to sudden stopping was ice skating. i will need to do brake work as the cars right rear wheel locks first. and the steering seems to need a lot of concentration. older cars need a lot more driving effort. the 1914 IHC is a REAL handful at 25MPH. in fact for me a description of, 'scary' would be a clear description. each generation made cars easier to drive. i find a total disconnect between driver and feedback unwanted. my 550 Maranello gives real feedback compared to a new Porsche. may b just me. the new Viper gives feedback but not in fine degrees of sensitivity. so, brass car guy exactly what wheel tire combo did u end up using? as for my health. lets just say it ain't getting any better but since i cannot do a damn thing about it, i do what in can and keep moving. vague plans for Pebble Beach. any here attending?

three trips so far. easy road car to drive. i need to change the oils so i ordered Amzoil today. having a possible mechanic(new employee) gives me a chance to rethink my projects. i got the 365 motors off the shelf and am thinking i just might have him start. maybe just dreaming.

    Tom,

How would you compare it to the M-Bs you traded for it?
