I also have Hagerty, and last year I raised my coverage to $65. Had no problem at all. You may want to give them another call.

That was the day my #68235 scored Platinum. It was my first time having a car judged and I couldn't believe it. Great day.

This car has been for sale for some time in Sydney, Australia:

Classic Throttle Shop - 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Fibreglas Dry sump

1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Fibreglas Dry sump
    Rosso Corsa, 76,647 kms VIN-No. 20857

    A$ 109,995

"A notable aspect of the early 308 GTB was that, although still built by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, the 308s bodywork was entirely made of glass-reinforced plastic or GRP, allowing a very light weight of 1,050 kg 2,315 lb. The engine borrowed its dry-sump lubrication from Ferrari’s racing experience. This lasted until June 1977, when the 308 was switched to steel, resulting in an, alleged, 150 kg 331 lb additional weight. The 308 models are the most common historical Ferrari models, with over 12,000 produced. However, only 712 of the first Fiberglass dry-sump version were made, which are now the most sought-after by collectors.
This superb example has a great history having travelled Europe with its original owner until finally finding its way home. Delivered new in London as an Australian designated car to an ex pat working in the UK the service book is filled with stamps from all across Europe. The original owner worked throughout Europe for many years and his pride and joy 308 GTB travelled everywhere with him. It is in excellent condition and has been fastidiously maintained. It is accompanied by the original books along with photos of its arrival back to Australia. The drive is sensational as it should be and the sound even more exhilarating. Showing very little sign of its 37 years this is still a fantastic looking car and would put most modern cars to shame. The 308 is probably the most recognisable Ferrari ever made and the GTB is certainly the pick of the bunch.

    Ferrari 308 GTB Fibreglass,TOTALLY IMMACULATE CONDI!WOW! For Sale (1978)

"PRICE FOR THIS YELLOW BEAUTY IS:$115,000

Ferrari 308 GTB Fibreglass,TOTALLY IMMACULATE CONDI!WOW! For Sale (1978) on Car And Classic UK [C240237]

AWESOME 1978 FERRARI 308 GTB FIBREGLASS (Vetroresina)

Rare factory glassfibre model by Scaglietti
Only 712 lightweight glassfibre cars were ever made
This is one of only 128 ever made in right hand drive
    Twincam alloy 3 litre V8 - 4 Webers - top speed 256kph
    Rare dry sump engine
    Factory air cond
    Electric windows
Full history and recently fully serviced
Used - only 36,000 kms from new
    Totally immaculate condition

There were 12,143 - 308,s built, out of that only 712 fibreglass bodied & only 128 right hand drive fibreglass 308,s ever made.
This is a - right hand drive - fibre glass 308, dry sump, quad carb, twin cam, V-8, three litre. Imported directly from the factory to NZ, to Euro cars who was the only NZ Ferrari concessionaire at that time.

This is a European spec car, in good condition -fully factory optioned with Air con, rear spoiler, higher rated front & rear sway bars, larger mags, power windows, leather, under grille spots, fully detailed (polished) engine, has a JVC music unit with remote which doesnt get used!

I prefer to listen to the engine roaring as this cars "4 twin choke Webers" make a distinctive sound & with the lightweight body make it the fastest of the 308,s.The engine was fully overhauled in 97 & has had regular servicing with reciepts. Cambelt changed as well.

Price of a restoration candidate plus the cost of a high quality restoration only makes sense if you want to hold onto the car for a long time. So...

    1) Better to buy a car someone has already restored.
    2) If you buy one to restore, do so because you like the car, not because you think it is a "good investment".

    My $0.02.

Harry Metcalf at Octane Magazine just bought a white on blue fiberglass car with 35,000 miles all original for around £ 75,000. He unveiled the purchase in this month's magazine.

He loves the car and will have more to comment on at each monthly update.

    Hello to all fiberglass fans!

There is one question that often comes back on forums and doesn't seem to be answered properly: why Ferrari chose to stop fiberglass and go to steel bodies.

I don't have the final answer, but what I heard from someone in Japan is quite interesting, and I don't think I have read it anywhere else.

It seems that some time after deliveries started, Ferrari received a claim from an English dealer, stating there was a problem with the engine hood, that was not fitting properly the body of the car. The same claim then came from an American dealer, and that would be what triggered the decision to change to steel bodies. Obviously, this change was also motivated by cost savings perspectives, since fiber body was quite expensive to produce, and good sales would help amortize tooling costs. By the way, re-localization of back lamps, from bumper to winker tail lights, was also done to save some money.

I believe those comments may be quite accurate, since they come directly from Mr Fioraventi, who told them to that Japanese man I know when he had lunch with him. Actually, Mr Fioraventi was selling his 308 Fiberglass (Silver with red interior), and the Japanese man went to Maranello to see the car. Eventually, he passed on the deal and didn't buy the car, but I believe he felt very lucky to get a chance to know such an important person!

Hope this can be of some interest for some of you!
