This will probably come across as being a bit obsessive about details but when I look at the minutaie of detail that goes into, say, a restoration of a 246 Dino, perhaps the day will also come when folks will want to know to the detail whats right (or not) about a GT4.

Also, the subject is probably a pretty easy DIY and I am always interested in that, so...

Some, but not all, Gt4's have an engine bay light that comes on when the trunk is open and the parking lights are on (I think).

The light is in the front left corner of the engine bay above the chassis rail and tank, and the switch is in the bottom left corner - AFAIK, when the trunk is opened the button pops up and closes the circuit, powering the light.

The switch below comes through the trunk gutter on the rear quarter panel and as I understand it grounds itself through the body (ie there is no ground wire from the switch, it has only one terminal going back to the light).

Mine (#10402 Series 1) has the light and the wire to the switch but no switch - the left rear quarter was replaced at some stage and that detail was left out (bodyshops...).

Long story short, I would like to see pics of peoples trunk lights and light switches, to see if there are any variations and to see if we can track down the original switch (or was there more than one type).

Also, for folks who dont have a light switch, is there evidence that the switch was there or is it clear that the car never had a light and switch.

Here are some pics from another thread - not my car:

You should be able to fabricate the mount. Looks like you already have the wire that attaches to it - light gray with blue stripe.

    Thanks Joe,

thats what I was looking for, a close-up of the button to see what type it is. Will be interesting to see if there were any variations. Yes, I have the wire all ready to go!

This one is available around, for example from Superformance and reasonably priced - same one used in the 246 Dino is the trunk (fitted in the hinges where the hinge scrapes over the button).

gbp 4,95 when you look in the 246 section of Superformance, part 24618105

    206 / 246 ELECTRICAL Superformance ferrari dino ferrari v6 ferrari v12 specialists 308 246 206 fiat dino 355 328

Now, I wonder if at some stage Ferrari stopped putting them in Gt4's...
