Thanks, Mike, watched the first cut, will have to watch the rest later on big screen/with some volume. Gotta love Joe Walsh....love the cutting my yard story...can you imagine having Mr. Walsh as a neighbor? :D

Hoping Funk 49 is on the set list.

Brad Paisley is, I think, just a fantastic musician, singer, songwriter.

I love these x roads - episodes, there was one a while back with Taylor Swift (of all artists) and Deff Leppard. It was really good, actually saved the version of Photograph, I like it as much as the original.

I was kind've wondering why Walsh would pick these people. Seems like he sees a little of himself in each of them, and he wants to collaborate with them. Walsh was very special when he was really young, the record execs treated him like some musical prince, especially to let him leave a group that was on the way up to go out on his own. The word prodigy doesn't really fit, but he had alot of music in him, and is a prolific session player. Everything he does, especially his solo work, has a basic musical cohesiveness that makes it listenable even if the melody isn't that appealing.

I never really thought Paisely was much more than a face man, but he actually studied music on scholarship from ASCAP at Belmont in Nashville, and he really can play very well. His brand of country music is the contemporary style, but he does it well. The more I watch of the video, the more I like it.

Walsh just seems to be a very down to Earth, very musical guy. Second only to Frampton in the use of the "golden throat."

Never realized how undercut his jaw and speech is.

paisley is a monster player. as is keith urban. seems guitar players all migrated from rock to country. and even though i think he is like the male version of taylor swift, hunter hayes isnt bad on the guit-fiddle either

I think you're right about the "talent funnel" being in country right now.

I've always taken people like Albert Lee, Ricky Skaggs, and Vince Gill to be the monster players, but Chet Atkins is the king of all country players to many people. He could play Rodrigo's guitar concerto all day long and in his sleep.

I haven't see the video you mention, I'd like to see Paisely in the "chicken pickin'" style, James Burton claims to have invented that, but I think it was simultaneous in many areas. Burton is fantastic though, and he played with Elvis forever.

Hunter Hayes is a non-threatening male that appeals to teenage girls and housewives. He sounds like Rascal Flats. Im waiting for the new outlaws to emerge and take back the genre. Country music has become Adult Contemporary. In the meantime I have to listen the same stuff I have been listening to since I was in the backseat of my parents car.

brad paisley said in an interview that he is glad vince gill went on to be a singer/songwriter, because if he didnt, and was just a session player, there would be no work for other guitarists in nashville employed.

Yep, Chet was right up there w Mr. Paul - and, a bit of trivia: Mark Knopfler (another country monster) asked Gill to join Dire Straits on tour - and, check out MK and Chet's sessions - awesome.

Just a killer amp, if'n you get a chance, play one :D Really keeps you "honest" ;)

Wow, I had no idea Komet was associated w Ken F (RIP) - don't know much about the 60 - just googled it and being EL34 based surprised it's not more "marshally" than "voxy".

I so understand having a new baby - stopped my playing for a while as well - don't let it happen to you :D !

Maybe find somebody to wire a PPMIV into your 60? Or get a Z Airbrake?

the komet 60 is definitely more marshally in person. as is the concorde. then there is the songwriter. the komet 60 and concorde are both ken designs, but the layout and components and build were done by the komet guys. after ken died, the songwriter was one of 2 he built that the komet guys, with permission from the estate are building "clones" of. that has a quad of el84s. i havent compared it to the z-wreck as i havent played it in person.

once i get more time, i may pick up a bad cat unleash attenuator. i have a komet attenuator (same as a zbrake but has a line out) i use my dr z mini z a bunch too when i actually have time.

I'll bet it's very Z Wreckish/Stangrayish (jacked AC30) - I think the Wreck is really all about the cab - hence marketing them only as a pair. Both sound the same to me through my single 12 cab - but then, I'm old and don't have much hearing any more...

True, but young man :D - you will get to a point in your life that a single gold in an open back cab is just about all you can tote

There's a small company about 45 minutes away from me that competes directly with Dr. Z in "tone amps," and they are incredible (Blackfoot Custom Amps). Video just doesn't do justice to the warmth and resonance. I had them to make a mic preamp from all tubes, and I use it on all vocals. As for guitar amps I'm using Peavey 6505+ combos, they've got 5 12AX7's for pre, and two 6L6's in the amp stage. For the money, it's a ton of tubeness, and really resonant. They're based on the original 5150 that EVH helped design, you just can't argue with a ton of tubes. The 6505 has resonance control, which allows you to dial in alot. As for the boutique amps, I personally like "Divide by 13" which are comparable to DR. Z. With a good tone amp, you're playing clean and resonant on a single note line, then when you hit a chord it gets smoothly overdriven. Turn up the volume, and everything gets crunchy. That's a tone amp, very little controls in between your guitar and the tubes, and volume changes the sound more than an EQ, and a ton of tubes.

Watched this last night, thank you, Mike! No Funk 49, but some really good stuff - I was impressed with Hunter Hays - his vocals were better than I've heard before.

I was very surprised with The Reverend's performance - he really seemed to be struggling with finding "his way" on Fast Lane.

Brad Paisley was his typically spectacular self - kind of different tone for him as he seemed to be doing fewer hammer/pull offs - more rock less country.

And, dang, I like Sara Evans even more :D
