I have been shopping Dino's and when researching chassis #, I find that most (almost all) cars show a color change in the Dino registry during the life of the cars. Is this accurate or is the registry less accurate. I did found 2 examples in the registry when the model changed so I know there are some errors in the registry. Seems very strange that so many have had color changes. I don't have extensive experiences with vintage Ferraris, so I thought I would through that out there for feedback.

Colour changes were not strange at all for Dinos. They are 40 year old cars that were the least expensive cars ever offered by Ferrari. They were very often used a lot and not given any real special treatment in at least the first 20 years of their life.

Does anyone have stats on the production numbers of the unusual colors? I just found out that my 1971 Euro model GT was originally white. I have never considered white as an option but the thought of returning it to original is intriguing.

If you do not have it buy Matthias' book: Ferrari Dino V6 Compendium . It has the original records for all the cars built and is the most complete text on the subject.

Thanks Julius! I ordered the book from Matthias a few days ago and am eager to receive it. It's good to hear that this type of data is in the book. As a new Dino owner, it is great to have the advice of experts.

If the story was told correctly to me the first dino sold new in Holland had his color changed allready before the client took delivery, he wanted another color than the demo car was but delivery time for another one was too long, so they resprayed the demo. ( calling it a demo is probably not correct for this situation...)

Interesting that you should bring that up. The owner of my shop thinks that this may have been done to my car as it is an extremely old respray that was done in a very thorough manner and the sticker plates on the back of the car appear to be dealer stickers. I will send a close up of those some time. We may never know, but in my opinion, tracking down the history is a big part of the joy of owning a car like this.

paint your car in a color you like if you plan on keeping it awhile. dont get caught in the hype of original color if you dont like the orig color. many cars are being painted in colors the owner would not have chosen simply to stay original. if you plan on selling it soon, the paint it "resale original".
